Top Ten Tuesday: Book Series On My Shelf I Still Need To Start

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovely Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week a new theme is suggested for bloggers to participate in. This week’s prompt is Completed Series I Wish Had More Books, but I couldn’t come up with very many since I haven’t read many series lately. So I decided to do something different!

Hello Readers! We had an uninvited guest return to our house last week. My husband came home from a work trip and brought back Covid. Ergh. Our son quickly caught it, as well, his symptoms mirroring, but trailing, my husband’s by one day. Thankfully, I did not get sick, which I’m assuming is because I just had it in May when no one else in the house did. I don’t know how we would have managed if we’d all been sick at the same time. (Can we get those boosters now, please!) Meanwhile, just as all the sickness was descending, my daughter returned from a month long trip to Brazil! We were so happy to have her home, but it wasn’t quite the welcome she probably expected. πŸ˜ƒ

In other news, we’ve gone from a drought to flooding in just two days here in Texas. 😳

Anyhoo… as I was working on today’s prompt, I quickly discovered I could only come up with a few series that were complete that I wish had more books. Mostly because I haven’t been reading very many series the last few years and/or the series I have started still have more books to be published. I remembered when I did my recent post Books Series I Need to Finish, I had a discussion in the comments with Nicole @ BookWyrm Knits about needing to make a list of series I need to START. So that’s what I decided to go with for today’s TTT!

In the past, I’d want to own the entire series before I started reading (which I don’t do anymore), so I’ve accumulated several series that I’ve yet to read. Not too surprisingly, most of these are from the Mystery and Fantasy genres, which I don’t read very often anymore.

Let’s see what series I need to start, and maybe you can convince me to pick them up or unhaul them!

1

The Lymond Chronicles Series by Dorothy Dunnett

Back when I started reading everything I could get my hands on again, I searched for ‘addictive series’ and this one set in 16th century Scotland came up a lot. So, of course I went searching for all of the copies. I think I remember picking up most of them on ebay. Let me know if you’ve read them, please!

2

Codex Alera Series by Jim Butcher

A relative highly recommended this series to me years ago. It took me awhile to pick up all the books, but I now own all of them. I don’t read as much fantasy as I did back when I started collecting copies, and I think that’s why I haven’t picked it up yet.

Jacqueline “Jack” Daniels Series by J.A. Konrath

I’m a fan of Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series, and I’d heard this series is similar.

4

Perfect Chemistry Series by Simone Elkeles

I’d heard nothing but good things about this YA or NA series—I’m not sure which it is—back in the day, but I’ve since seen a few mixed reviews, which have kept me from picking it up. I’m still very intrigued by these intense covers, though.

5

Legend Series by Marie Lu

Another one of those fantasy series I never got around to, but the hype was big for this one. I think I’d really still like to read it.

6

Dublin Murder Squad Series by Tana French

From what I understand, all the novels in this series are loosely connected. I think each one features a different detective on the murder squad. So I think they can be read as standalones, but I didn’t realize this when I first started adding the series to my shelf.

7

Sookie Stackhouse Series by Charlaine Harris

I’d heard about this series for years, and when I came across the first six books for very cheap, I decided to pick them up. I’m still not sure if I’ll ever read them, and from the Goodreads reviews, people were NOT happy with the final book, so that’s disheartening. Have you read this series?

8

Silo Series by Hugh Howey

I can’t even remember where I came across this Sci-Fi series, but I’d placed it on my paperbackswap wishlist years ago. I own the Wool Omnibus edition, and I have no idea what that means, but this series has stellar reviews!

Ashfall Series by Mike Mullin

Ashfall is a YA Dystopia series about the eruption of the super-volcano under Yellowstone that sounded intriguing several years ago, but now seems all too real. It has great reviews, though.

Throne of Glass Series by Sarah J. Maas

I’ve owned the first book in this series, Throne of Glass, for years, but back in February I couldn’t resist when the entire series was on sale through Kindle (plus The Assassin’s Blade, a collection of novellas) for $5.99. THIS is a YA Fantasy series I’m determined to finally read someday.

  1. I have not read any of these series. This is a dangerous topic this week as I’m finding series that i need to read, and it’s going to hurt my TBR!

  2. I so enjoyed the whole Sookie Stackhouse series and have read and enjoyed some of Maas’s series. Will be definitely checking out the Legend and Silo series.

    1. I’m sorry your comment posted as ‘anonymous’, but yes, it has felt that way! We made it over 2 years without catching it, but it finally caught up with us. πŸ™‚

    1. My daughter and I avoided it! Whew! The boys are much better. Yeah, I need to either read these or force myself to part with those that have been on my shelves for so long. πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

    1. Oh, that’s great to hear! It’s definitely one I’m determined to get to. If you end up reading The Lymond Chronicles before I do, come back and let me know what you think. πŸ˜‰

  3. Wool, the Dublin Murder Squad. and The Codex Alera series are both on my TBR, too. But I haven’t felt any pressure to pick either of them up, TBH. I did read the first couple of Sookie Stackhouse books, and they were fine? Nothing spectacular in my opinion. But I know the series was pretty popular, so maybe that was just me.

I hope your family is all healthy again soon!

    1. I’m happy to hear I’m not alone with having some of these sitting on my TBR. That’s probably what I should do, read a few chapters of Sookie Stackhouse and see if I’m interested.

Everyone is doing much better, thank you!

  4. Wow! There’s a lot going on by you. Hope everyone is doing well and that the flood waters don’t get you. I am two books short on TOG. The Legend series is a fave. With book 4 out, I would encourage people to read it. I was a mess at the end of three which was supposed to be the end. I am forever grateful to Marie Lu for that last book. I have one of the Perfect Chemistry books. Really need to read it.

    1. Thankfully our house is not in a spot where it floods, but there was some terrible flooding nearby. Everyone is much better, too. I’m just ready for those updated vaccines! πŸ˜‰ I didn’t know book 3 was supposed to be the end for the Legend series. Makes me happy I waited to read it, then. Legend and TOG are both series I’m determined to get to. Someday. Haha! If you get to Perfect Chemistry before I do, I’d love to hear your thoughts.
