Top Ten Tuesday: Are These Free Romances Worth My Time?

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovely Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week a new theme is suggested for bloggers to participate in. This week’s prompt is a Genre Freebie (Pick a genre and build a list around it. It could be a list of favorites, a to-read list, recommendations for people interested in reading books in that genre, “if you like this, try this”, etc.)

Hello Readers! How have we already made it to the end of February?! I’ve had a nice reading month, reading all love stories in varying genres, including several off my backlist. Here in Texas we’re creeping closer to spring and time change, which means more sunshine and warmer weather. I’m ready for it!

Today is a genre freebie, and I’ve been acquiring quite a few free romance ebooks, snatching them up when I see they’re free for the day—if I like the plot and/or recognize the author’s name. But I haven’t read any books from any of these authors, and I’m hoping you can tell me if I should pick them up! Many of them are now available to read through Kindle Unlimited, and one is currently free to download. While several of these are subsequent books in a series, from what I understand, they can be read as standalones. And since I have so many, you’re getting 12 instead of 10.

Would you recommend any of these romances? 💖

  1. I sadly haven’t read any of these romances, but I do like both Melanie Jacobson and Jenny Proctor; I’ve read and loved other books by them. And you can’t go wrong with Penny Reid. Happy reading! 😀

  2. I haven’t read any of these but I have Elements of Chemistry on my TBR. I like Penny Reid’s writing.

  3. Penny Reid is a favorite of mine. Her tagline is “a smart romance”, and that’s no lie. Always fun, witty, and nerdy, I guess. I read one or two by Walsh as well. They were good. Kendall Ryan’s book entertained me as well. I read XO, Zach last year and I liked it a lot

    1. Reid is definitely the one I’ve heard the most about. She seems to be the most recommended. I’m happy to hear you’ve enjoyed a few of the others, as well. I always feel better about picking up a book if fellow readers have read them, too. And now I’ve added XO, Zach to the tbr. 😉

  4. Ah, I love KU and the variety of romances it offers although I have to say that the US definitely has a lot more options than UK KU! 😂 I’ve read Cowles’ book and although it is well loved, I thought it was just OK. I binged Brighton Walsh’ Havenbrook series last year and so I would definitely say that one is worth checking out! I’ve heard a lot of good things about Melanie Harlowe’s books too but haven’t read one yet. I also have that Penny Reid book on my Kindle as of yesterday and I’m looking forward to reading it although the last book I read by her wasn’t a big hit for me. I hope you enjoy whichever ones you decide to pick up, Dedra! 😃

    1. Oh, great tips, Dini! I’m always a little nervous about the free books, and it helps if I can set my expectations before I pick them up. And I also won’t feel as guilty about DNFing, if I’m not enjoying it. 😃 I hope we both enjoy the Penny Reid one if/when we get to it!

  5. I haven’t read any of these, Dedra so can’t help you there, but I have read other books by Penny Reid. They are usually steamy reads, but fun stories. If you try any of them, let us know what you think. I agree if it is free, I don’t feel bad if I DNF it.

  6. Tattered Stars was wonderful! I read the entire series and Tattered Stars (the first in the series) remained a favorite. Catherine Cowles has come to be a real favorite over the last year or so.
