Hello Readers! I’ve decided to join in on the Trope-ical Readathon, which runs throughout this month. It will be my third time to participate, and I always manage to read more thanks to the challenges. It’s a great way to cross off some ARCs and/or backlist books. Hopefully it will help me have one of my best reading months ever. This will be my tentative TBR, but we are allowed to change books throughout the readathon. Sign-ups are open through March 5th!

All the rules and information for this challenge can be found @ JenJenReviews. There are a lot of details but they also have a YouTube video that helped me understand how each challenge works. Basically, you choose your team and each team gets points for challenges completed. But you don’t have to stick to the challenges, you can also get points just for pages read on any book you choose.
Point System
- Common Challenges: 50 POINTS EACH
- Team Challenges: 100 POINTS EACH
- Team Books: 150 POINTS EACH
- Pages Read: 1 POINT PER PAGE
Common Challenges
There are two options for the Common Challenges: read a book with the given trope OR one that satisfies the alternate prompt. For my challenges I’ll be using my ARCs for the month and books from my Popsugar Reading Challenge. I’ve also made an effort to choose shorter books, if possible. One of my goals for the year is to reread The Hunger Games series before I read The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. Each of these books fit into a challenge for this readathon, but I hadn’t planned on reading them this early in the year. I’ll be surprised if I get to any of them, which is why I’ll be selecting alternates, as well.
- Absent/Dead Parent(s) – Love on the Brain by Ali Hazelwood
- Love Triangle – Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins (alternate – Heartburn by Nora Ephron)
- Boarding School – Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro
- A Borrowed Book – Empress of Salt and Fortune by Nghi Vo (on Libby)
- Takes Place in Another Country – Dust Child by Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai (ARC, 3/16/23)
- A Book Published Before 2000 – Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel García Márquez
- An Audiobook or Ebook – Romantic Comedy by Curits Sittenfeld (ARC, 4/4/23)
- Apocalyptic/Dystopia – The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins (alternate – Emergency Skin by N.K. Jesimin)
- A book in a series – The Deal (Off-Campus, #1) by Elle Kennedy
- Coming-of-Age – You Wouldn’t Dare by Samantha Markum (ARC, 3/28/23)
- Multiple POC characters – Lone Women by Victor Lavalle (ARC, 3/28/23)
- A book with a pun in the title – Wishful Drinking by Carrie Fisher
- A book with a TV or movie adaptation – Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins (alternate – Member of the Wedding by Carson McCullers)
Team Challenge
I’ve chosen Team Romance since that’s typically the genre I read the most from. However, I do not own either of the Team Books listed, but they are both on my ‘Want to Read’ list. Highly Suspicious and Unfairly Cute by Talia Hibbert is about 50 pages shorter, so that’s the one I’ve chosen. 🙂

- Read a historical romance novel – An Offer From a Gentleman (Bridgertons, #3) by Julia Quinn

Yay! I’m also participating in this readathon! I’m even hosting sprints throughout the month on their sprint twitter account. So far, I’ve already read more than I usually do in just 2 days. I’m hoping that continues. I hope you have fun and read lots :0
I’ve been so committed, I’m just getting to the comments on this post. 😆 I hope it’s still going well for you. I’ve definitely read more than I usually do, but I’m hoping to keep it up for the last week! I need to give sprints a try!
I am picking up Romantic Comedy again. I need to try and ignore some of the stuff because I can tell there is something great there. I loved Markum’s book. I hope you have fun doing the trope a thon and find many hits.
I haven’t gotten to Romantic Comedy yet. It’ll be next for me. Have you read Sittenfield before? You Wouldn’t Dare was good, but I still liked her first book better. But they were so very different from each other.
I read Prep many years ago. The MC disappointed me. I feel I am not cut out for literary fiction. I actually like Dare better. There were small things that rubbed me wrong with the first book, but overall, I liked it
Sounds like a fun challenge! I’ve seen it before (this year and in years past) but I’ve never ended up participating. There’s certainly a lot of prompts to choose from for it, though!
There are plenty of options! 😅 Which can also be overwhelming.
