Hello Readers! Thanks to being fully vaccinated and low case numbers here, my daughter and I visited a few thrift stores for the first time in over a year. Which means my haul for June was bigger than normal. I also had so many books off my Paperbackswap list becoming available, I didn’t have enough credits to get them. BUT my son ended up cleaning off a bookshelf, giving me a box of books he no longer wanted which gave me more credits. Win! π Most exciting, I received a couple of gifted books from our TTT Bookish Wishes post last week! I so enjoyed granting (and receiving) some book wishes. I hope it becomes an annual tradition. <3
Let’s take a look at my haul for June!
(Link to synopsis on Goodreads through the book title.)
My Wishlist Gifts
- The Geography of Lost Things by Jessica Brody – I LOVE road trip books and I’ve had this book on my wishlist for a few years. I was so happy when it showed up on my doorstep. If I can wait, I’m hoping to save it to read during my next road trip later this summer. π
- Now a Major Motion Picture by Cory McCarthy – I’ve read and enjoyed a previous book (You Were Here) by McCarthy and I’ve had this cute-sounding book set in Ireland on my wishlist for awhile. I’m so excited to get to it!
Thrifted Books
- Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison
- Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann – This one is being adapted soon!
- By Your Side by Kasie West
My eARCs
- Moonlighting: An Oral History by Scott Ryan – I’ve already devoured this comprehensive look at the tumultuous years of the hit tv series Moonlighting. Available 6/1/21 My Review
- The Husbands by Chandler Baker – When I was invited to read Baker’s latest release, I couldn’t say no. I enjoyed her debut, Whisper Network, and The Husbands sounded even more intriguing. As I’m writing this, it’s my current read and I’m loving it! Available 8/3/21
- Beautiful Country: A Memoir by Qian Julie Wang (ηδΉΎ) – I know this is going to be a gut-wrenching but important read by someone who grew up undocumented in America. The early reviews are GLOWING! Available 9/7/21
- Cold the Night, Fast the Wolves by Meg Long – My first ARC for 2022! I was invited to read this debut and it has some glowing early reviews. I need a little more Fantasy in my life. Available 1/11/22
My Paperbackswap Books
- Agnes Grey by Anne Bronte – I was finally able to add this one to my collection of Bronte books.
- The Animators by Kayla Rae Whitaker – I’ve had this book about best friend animators on my tbr for a few years. I can’t help but be intrigued by the premise.
- The Bird and the Blade by Megan Bannen – I added this young adult fantasy to my wishlist when I saw several of you give it glowing reviews!
- The Glass Hotel by Emily St. John Mandel – When this one came out the reviews were so positive. They’re a bit more mixed now, but it sounds like one I’d enjoy.
- A Ladder to the Sky by John Boyne – Having read The Talented Mr. Ripley recently, I came across this more modern day take and the reviews for it are impressive!
- The Viscount Who Loved Me (Bridgerton, #2) by Julia Quinn – I mostly enjoyed the first book in this series. I’m hoping the second book will be less controversial. π
My Purchases
I pre-ordered the paperback copy of Love & Olives by Jenna Evans Welch and I can’t wait to get to escape with this YA set in Greece!
I picked up an ebook of The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary through Kobo when I saw it on sale. And I received Love Connection for free when I signed up for the author’s newsletter on her website!
Amazon First Reads
In June Prime members were able to pick two books. I chose The Mixtape by Brittainy Cherry and Have We Met? by Camille Baker. I’m excited for both of these new romances! Available 7/1/21
Have you read any of these books? Did you add any of them to your TBR? Let me know in the comments!
Geography of Lost Things sits on my favorite shelf. It was highly entertaining and also very touching. The trading up fascinated me. I read Invisible Man in high school, and it was one I actually enjoyed. I hope you enjoy them all!
Oh yay!! That makes me want to read them even more. <3
Wow, that’s quite a nice haul! I’m hoping to be able to make a trip to my local second hand bookstore soon, and i’m so looking forward to browsing the shelves.
Oooh, it’s so much fun to be able to visit bookstores again! I hope you find lots of deals. <3
I haven’t done Paperbackswap in such a long time. I might have to check it out again. Glad you got so many amazing books!
Oh, I love it! I pay the yearly $20 fee so I can have a wishlist of 500 books. π
What a haul! I bought By Your Side awhile ago too. I haven’t read it yet, but I really want to. And Camilla Isley! I love her! I might need to sign up for that newsletter too π
Oooh, you should do it!! π
