Monthly Wrap-Up TBR

June 2021 Monthly Wrap-Up

Hello Readers! Am I alone in wishing I had a few more days of June?? I need this summer to slowww down. Ha! I had to split my Wrap-Up and Haul posts this month since my haul was ridiculously large. I don’t feel too bad about it since I only actually bought a few books and they were on sale or thrifted. πŸ˜‰

Looking back at My June TBR, I ended up reading six out of the seven books I had planned, bringing my total pages read to 1,951 pages. And very oddly, four out of six of those books had exactly 352 pages!! πŸ™‚ All but one of them were advanced reader copies since I’m trying to get ahead on my ARCs to free up some time for backlist reading over the next few months. Let’s see what I managed to read!

June Wrap-Up

(Link to synopsis on Goodreads through the book title.)

I started the month reading the recently acquired Opposites Attract by Camilla Isley. I read this one to fulfill a prompt on my reading challenge. I was pleasantly surprised by this well-written romance!

My Rating ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Next I picked up The Maidens by Alex Michaelides. After seeing some mixed reviews for this twisty thriller, I was nervous. But I shouldn’t have been!

Moonlighting: An Oral History by Scott Ryan wasn’t even on my radar, but as soon as I saw it was available (on the day it was published), I jumped over to Netgalley and requested it! I’ll definitely be buying a physical copy to add to my shelves.

I didn’t love Lady Sunshine by Amy Mason Doan—one of my most anticipated books of the year—quite as much as I did her previous novel, Summer Hours, but I still had fun getting lost in this atmospheric romance.

While not perfect, Where It All Lands by Jennie Wexler is an impressive debut for the author. I happily got lost in this YA sliding-doors story, reading it in one day.

After reading and enjoying the author’s adult debut novel, Whisper Network, I couldn’t resist accepting an invitation to read The Husbands by Chandler Baker. Not only are her books intelligent thrillers, they’re set in my home state! I loved this one!

  1. I wouldn’t have minded stretching out June too. It went by too fast. Opposites Attract sounds like something I would enjoy. I am glad to hear you enjoyed it. I keep seeing The Maidens everywhere and it sounds very tempting . . . I may have to add it to my wish list. I wonder if my husband would be interested in the Moonlighting book. He was a huge fan of the show. I hope you read many great books in July!

    1. I’d love to hear your thoughts if you end up reading Opposites Attract or The Maidens! The Moonlighting book would make a great gift for any fan of the show. <3

    1. Yeah… my parents let me watch with them when they probably shouldn’t have. But I’m pretty sure it contributed to my love of reading romance. πŸ˜‰

  2. Thanks for the links at the bottom of this post! I am glad to hear that someone, at least, is looking into paying royalties on secondhand books. (For a lot longer than I like to admit I just assumed that authors got paid for secondhand books as well as new books.) I also particularly enjoyed the read on decolonizing your bookshelf.

  3. I’ve never heard of the term “sliding doors story” before so I had to look it up. I love learning new things! I have most of the books you read on my TBR, and now I really want to read Opposites Attract. I need to catch up on my ARCs too.
