Hello Readers! I spent most of August continuing my summer plans to read backlist books while picking up a couple of ARCs at the end of the month. Looking back at My August TBR, I ended up reading five of the seven books I had planned (plus my two advanced copies and one mood read), bringing my total pages read to 2,668 pages! I didn’t make it to my reread of Beach Read, but I’m hoping to still get to it in September. It’ll feel like summer through October here in Texas, anyway. π
I had fun hosting my Myrtle Hardcastle Mystery Giveaway! Congrats to Kelly M for winning this fun set! Don’t worry if you missed out on this one, my 2nd blogiversary is coming up soon and I’ll be hosting an international giveaway to celebrate. Yay!!
Let’s see what I managed to read in August!

August Wrap-Up
(Link to synopsis on Goodreads through the book title.)
I started the month continuing my reading of Jenny Han’s Summer series with the second installment, It’s Not Summer Without You. I thought the second book was more well-written than the first, but also more emotional. It’s definitely a YA series with plenty of drama!

I immediately picked up the final book in the Summer series, We’ll Always Have Summer. I was never that invested in the love triangle but the books were entertaining. I’m happy I finally read this series, but they’re not books I would reread.

Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid has appeared on soooo many of my TBRs, and it felt great to finally cross this one off. Unfortunately, I didn’t love it as much as I’d hoped. I listened to this one on audiobook and also read a physical copy. I discuss the book some in my post Should I Give Up on Audiobooks?

I was so excited to pick up The Geography of Lost Things by Jessica Brody while on vacation. I began reading this road trip book in the car as we started our own road trip, which made the book even more fun and memorable. This is one I would love to reread. Great characters, great setting, heart-wrenching, but hopeful!

On our way home from vacation, I started Well Met by Jen DeLuca. I adored this book! It totally lived up to the hype and I can’t wait to continue the series.
My Rating ββββ.25
I also started The Mixtape by Brittainy Cherry while on vacation. It was my ebook of choice when I couldn’t read a physical book. I had some mixed feelings about this one, though.

My Review
My favorite read of the month was Slanted and Disenchanted by Lisa Czarina Michaud, a debut novel I was invited to read by the author. I loved so much about this book set in the 2000s. It had all my favorite things: music, road trips, romance, and nostalgia! It’s one of my favorite reads of the year so far.

My Review
Trying to keep ahead of my ARCs, I picked up Erin Hahn’s Never Saw You Coming. I enjoyed this YA romance about two teens who are dealing with difficult families and first love.

How was your reading month? Have you read any of these books? Did you add any of them to your TBR? Let me know in the comments!
I have not read any of these, and am going to add Han’s books to my TBR. My August books included many September ARCs that I was not originally expecting but loved each one. The most recent was Chasing the Stars by Melanie Hooyenga, pub date 9/20/21.
I hope you enjoy Han’s Summer series! It was a super quick read. I’ll have to check out Chasing the Stars! Thank you for the recommendation. <3
You have a ton of good reads on here! It must have been a fabulous month! I also read Never Saw You Coming this month and loved it.
It was a great reading month… summer! Ha! I’m hoping it continues into fall. I’m still working on my review for Never Saw You Coming. I loved it, but it brought up a lot of unresolved feelings about church for me. So the review is taking me longer to write. π
I remember a lot of tears when I read the last Summer book. So happy you enjoyed Geography. Brody’s books don’t get enough love. And, I agree with you. Well Me deserves the hype. You have me interested in Slanted and Enchanted. I saw it on NG, but wasn’t sure. You may have changed my mind.
Brody has definitely been added to my list of authors I enjoy. I’m excited to read more by her. I hope you decide to give Slanted and Disenchanted a try! It’s a quick read, too. And the author is super nice and open, which only enhanced my reading experience. <3
I’m really curious about Erin Hahn’s novel cos I saw it mentioned a few times over the last few weeks. I loved Well Met and still need to read the second book but I hope it lives up to the hype, too π Great monthly wrap up, Dedra!
I really enjoyed Hahn’s book. I’m working on my review, but it definitely brought up some unresolved feelings about church for me so I’m struggling with the review more than normal. Ha! Now that I’ve finished Well Met, I really want to get my hands on the next book. Hopefully we can both get to it sooner rather than later. π
I enjoyed Well Met so much. It was such a surprise for me because I didn’t expect to love it as much as I did. Now I’m really looking forward to Mitch’s story in Well Matched!
Yes! I’d seen the hype and was so pleasantly surprised to discover how much I enjoyed it. I really want to pick up the next book soon!
Yay for getting to most of your TBR and reading some good books! August was ~a month~ so I spent most of my reading time rereading comfort favourites haha. Hope you have a great September!
P. S. Thanks for including my post! π
Rereading is great when we’re overwhelmed with life! I was hoping to reread a few books this summer but I didn’t get to them. Maybe in September! π
Looks like a great reading month! Here’s to an equally good September!
Thank you!! Happy reading to you, too!
I have not read any of these, but Well Met is on my TBR. I hope you have a wonderful reading month in September, Dedra.
I definitely caved to the hype for Well Met, and I’m so happy I finally did. Such a pleasant surprise. I hope you have a great reading month in September, as well. <3
Glad to hear it was a good one, I will move it up the mountain.

Love your august wrap up pic!
Thank you! <3
I need to prioritize backlist books myself. I always feel like I am missing out on a ton of books because I get so distracted by new releases. Hope you have a good September!
Yes! I had to work hard to get ahead on my ARCs to make room to read my backlist. Which seems ridiculous. Haha! Those new books are so hard to resist. π
I wanted to add another comment–I started Never Saw You Coming last night and am really enjoying my first book by this author who lives in my home state.
Oh yay!! I’m happy to hear you’re enjoying it. <3
