August 2021 Book Haul

Hello Readers! I had a great reading month in August, reading mostly off my backlist. If you’d like to see what I finally got around to reading, check out My August Wrap-Up!

I didn’t add too many physical books to my shelves this month, two from Paperbackswap and two I picked up at a used bookstore while we were on vacation. It was a huge warehouse-style used bookstore, and I was dismayed when I couldn’t find more than two to purchase. ๐Ÿ˜‰ But I did add a slew of ebooks, many of which I caught while they were on sale. Yay!!

Let’s take a look at my haul for August!

My eARC

I only added one ARC (advanced reading copy) this month: The Christmas Bookshop by Jenny Colgan. I’ve enjoyed Colgan in the past so I’m excited to pick this one up!

Synopsis:

Perfect for the holidays! A brand-new heartwarming Christmas novel from the beloved New York Times bestselling author of The Bookshop on the Corner and Christmas at the Island Hotel

When the department store she works in closes for good, Carmen has perilously little cash and few options. She doesnโ€™t want to move in with her perfect sister Sofia, in Sofiaโ€™s perfect house with her perfect children and her perfectly ordered Edinburgh life.

Frankly, Sofia doesnโ€™t exactly want Carmen there either. Her sister has always been sarcastic and difficult. But Sofia has yet another baby on the way, a mother desperate to see her daughters get along, and a client who needs a retail assistant for his ailing bookshop, so welcoming Carmen might still have some benefits for everyone.

At Sofiaโ€™s behest, Carmen is thrown into the daily workings of old Mr. McCredieโ€™s ancient bookshop on the streets of the old dark city. Can she use her design skills to revamp the store and bring it back to popularity in time to benefit from Christmas shopping traffic? Can she choose between bad boy literary rock star Blair and quiet Quaker student Oke? And will she heal the rift with the most important people of all: her family?

Available 10/26/21

My Paperbackswap & Used Books

My eBook Purchases

  • Take a Hint, Dani Brown (The Brown Sisters, #2) by Talia Hibbert – I finally picked up a copy of this one when it was on sale.
  • The Road Trip by Beth O’Leary – After recently reading and loving The Flatshare, I was so happy to snag a copy of this one when it was on sale.
  • Beginner’s Luck (Chance of a Lifetime, #1) by Kate Clayborn – I caught this one on sale, as well! Clayborn’s Love at First is one of my favorite reads this year.
  • To the Stars and Back (First Comes Love, #4) by Camilla Isley – I also picked up two books in this series when they were on sale.
  • You May Kiss the Bridesmaid (First Comes Love , #6) by Camilla Isley – I’ve read two books from this series (each one can be read as a standalone) and I really enjoyed the characters and settings!

Freebies

I also added a few free ebooks!

  • A Vicarage Reunion (The Holley Sisters of Thornthwaite, #2) by Kate Hewitt – This is a new-to-me author but the synopsis sounds cute and it has 4.25 stars on Goodreads!
  • The Weight of a Thousand Oceans (The Forgotten Ones, #1) by Jillian Webster – I honestly can’t remember how I discovered this dystopian book, but it also has GLOWING reviews.
  • Tides: Paj & Auster (Fable, #0.1) by Adrienne Young – This little novella was available to the author’s newsletter subscribers. It takes place before the events in Fable.

Amazon First Reads

My Amazon First Reads choice for August was Paper Doll Lina by Robyn Lucas, which is about a woman finding her way out of a dangerous and abusive marriage. It has great reviews so far!

Available 9/1/21

Have you read any of these books? Did you add any of them to your TBR? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I actually can’t remember if I did pick a First Reads book in the end cos I was so undecided but Paper Doll Lina was one of the ones that intrigued me! I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it ๐Ÿ™‚ There are so many books on here that I can’t wait to read as well but I wish that Clayborn’s book was available on Kindle in the UK store! Gutted it’s not cos I’ve heard tons of good things about it! Great haul ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

    1. I’ve also forgotten to pick my First Reads a few times. I’ll put if off until the end of the month thinking maybe they’ll be more reviews by then and then I forget all about them. Ha! And there have been some months when nothing piqued my interest at all. I can’t believe Clayborn’s book isn’t available in the UK! Hopefully that changes soon. I would love to pick it up sooner rather than later, but I’m gonna be honest with myself and say it probably won’t happen. Haha!

    1. Yeah, sometimes there aren’t many that interest me. But I try to keep in the back of my head the random and specific prompts on my Popsugar yearly challenges. Sometimes they’ll fit those. But honestly, I haven’t read many of my First Reads yet. I think I just pick them up just in case I need them someday. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  2. I don’t give 5 stars often but I did to both Challenger Deep and This Tender Land. Loved them both! I also enjoyed Young Jane Young on audio!

      1. It was recommended to me and I put it off for quite awhile. I finally picked it up and was so glad I did. The writing is wonderful and descriptive.
