Top Ten Tuesday: Witchy Books Waiting On My TBR

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovely Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week a new theme is suggested for bloggers to participate in. This week’s prompt is a Halloween Freebie!

Hello Readers! Can October please slow down?! I need a few more weeks to get to all the books and Nanowrimo planning I had planned. I seemed to have no motivation this month. I’m hoping something finally clicks for me this last week. Fingers crossed!

This week when I was pondering the Halloween Freebie, scrolling through my Goodreads for inspiration, I noticed I have quite a few witch-themed books waiting on my TBR. And in a dream world where I have no other responsibilities, this would be my seasonal TBR for October and November. The first seven books I physically own, and the last three are on my wishlist.

Maybe someday I’ll get to these witchy reads!

(Link to Goodreads synopsis through book title.)

  1. The Witch Haven by Sasha Peyton Smith – A YA historical fiction set in New York City about a teen who discovers she’s a witch. The sequel for this one just published, as well!
  2. The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling – The consensus seems to be this is a fun, light witchy romance, and it sounds like just what I typically need in my busy October month.
  3. The Casquette Girls by Alys Arden – A YA fantasy set in New Orleans with curses and hurricanes. I’ve had this one on my shelf for years and it continues to survive my unhauls. I’m so intrigued by it!
  4. Circe by Madeline Miller – Another book that’s been waiting on my shelf for too long, after reading and loving The Song of Achilles, I know this one will be amazing, as well.
  5. Uprooted by Naomi Novik – Another YA fantasy, this is a fairytale retelling that sounds utterly magical.
  6. Winterwood by Shea Ernshaw – I received this YA fantasy in an Owlcrate box, but have yet to pick it up. I also have Ernshaw’s The Wicked Deep on my kindle. I’ve seen some mixed reviews for both of these books, which has kept them at the bottom of my tbr so far.
  7. Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury – A classic about a creepy carnival, this one is a must-read… someday.
  8. We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson – Another classic must-read, this one is about a murderous family.
  9. The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende – I’m ashamed to say I haven’t read a book by Allende yet, but this is the one I want to start with.
  10. The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden – A fairy tale-like book set in Russia about a winter demon, everyone who reads this one seems to love it.

See any of your favorites? Let me know in the comments!

Happy Wandering!

    1. Someday I’ll get my hands on a copy of The Bear and the Nightingale! Oooh, I don’t think I’ve heard of Cackle! I’ll go look it up. Thank you for the recommendation!

    1. Glad I’m not alone in wanting a few extra weeks of October. πŸ˜‰ Hmm… now I’m curious. You didn’t like Circe? Have you read The Song of Achilles, and if you did, did you like it?

      1. I get excited for Halloween type reads then the month just disappears!! No. It was just too long and dragged for me. If it was shorter I feel that I would have enjoyed it more. I haven’t read that as I couldn’t face another mythology one so soon… This of course might be a mistake!

        1. Ahh, ok! I read The Song of Achilles and loved it, but I didn’t think I could handle another emotional read right away, so I didn’t read Circe yet. And now it’s been a year. πŸ˜‚

          1. I try to avoid emotional books. I didn’t think Circe was too emotional, but then it dragged for me so I may have just not been engaging?

  1. Love your witch-themed list! Very fun choice for this week’s TTT. And good luck getting stuffed plan for Nanowrimo next month!

  2. There is never enough time to read all the books I want to read. I did read the Ex Hex and enjoyed that one.

      1. They really do! I’m not sure where September went, and it’s November already. October happened in there somewhere, too. At least there are several work holidays coming up, which will help me slow down at least a little. These days I’ve been feeling like I have to cram in both an 8 hour work day and equal time doing stuff at home, and I’m sure that’s part of why I have no sense of time right now. πŸ˜‰

    1. I don’t read many either. For some reason they’re not what I gravitate toward. But I have enjoyed the ones I’ve read, which makes me think I should try them more often. πŸ˜ƒ

  3. I’m so sad that the year is almost over and I’m not even close to finishing what all I wanted!! I am not sure I’ll finish PopSugar and I’m SO close!

    1. This year has flown! I had so many other books I wanted to read. I only have 2 prompts for Popsugar left, but I did have to shift a lot around to make it work. And I’m reading a novella for one of the prompts. You should use children’s books! I think they count. πŸ™‚
