Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovely Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week a new theme is suggested for bloggers to participate in. This week’s prompt is a Reasons Why Iβm Thankful for Books (In honor of Thanksgiving in the USA.)
Hello Readers! I hope today’s post finds you well and safe. β€οΈ The month is starting to wind down and it has been a fast one. I’ve enjoyed participating in Nanowrimo, but I’m also ready for a break. Ready to get into my holiday reading, too!
This week’s prompt was super easy for me to fulfill. I could probably come up with ten more reasons. Books are my life! π
Let’s see why I’m thankful for books!
(Link to Goodreads synopsis through book title.)
1
Books build empathy

I know one of the main reasons I grow as a human is because of the different places and people I meet in books. Learning about each other’s differences helps me to be more understanding, patient, and even forgiving.
2
Travel without leaving the couch

I love to travel, but even when that is not a possibility—whether because of financial reasons or pandemics—I can always visit somewhere new in a book.
3
Books can go anywhere

I love that I always have an ebook I’m reading readily available on my phone, even if I don’t have my kindle. But it is also very easy to drop a physical book into my bag.
4
Books are educational

I think every time I read a book, whether it’s fiction or non-fiction, I learn something new.
5
Books are fun to collect
I’ve recently started collecting vintage novelizations, or books based on films from the 1980s and 90s. It’s fun for me to search for them in used book stores or thrift stores.
6
Books are for sharing
Whether we’re reading out loud to someone, letting someone borrow a book (YES, I know it’s hard!), passing a book on after we’ve read it, or just chatting about a book, books are for sharing.
7
Books make better writers

I’ve talked about this before on the blog, but when I decided to start participating in Nanowrimo (happening now!), I also decided to start trying to read 100 books a year. Yes, it was because I’d heard that popular Stephen King quote, and I have to say I highly agree. BUT you don’t have to be someone with a goal to write a book to benefit from reading. I homeschooled all my kiddos, and one of the first pieces of advice I give to people with young readers is to just read a lot of books together. Hearing and seeing the words teach us spelling and grammar without even trying very hard. π₯°

Bookish friendships

I’m so thankful for all the friends I’ve made through books, whether online or off. It’s so much fun to share what we love with people who love them, too.
9
Books can be seasonal
I know many of you are not seasonal readers, but I most definitely am. If at all possible, I like my books to line up with the season, mainly holiday books in December!
10
Books are pretty!
Whether they have an elaborate and artistic cover, or even something more simple, books can be so very pretty.
Why are you most thankful for books? Let me know in the comments!
I don’t own any collector novels but I do love adding books to my collection and own some fun editions. π Plus I’ll admit I do own multiple versions of a select few books. Lots of reasons to be thankful for books.
Oh yes! I have multiple versions of Pride and Prejudice and Little Women. It’s hard to resist all the different (and pretty) copies!
I have so many bookish friends, too. In fact, I count book blogging friends among them! Thank you.
Me, too! <3
A great list. I love the pictures too. I have to admit that I struggled to think of 10 reasons π
Have a great week!

That’s okay! Some of mine could overlap and I just thought really broadly. π
I tried to think broadly but it didn’t come easily π

I will have to agree with bookish friendships! I’ve gained so many friends in the bookish community!

YES!! One of the best things about the bookish community.
I love that you’ve started collecting the novelizations of childhood movies. I’m thankful books are such an important part of my life.

Yes, me too! I really don’t understand people who don’t love books. π
Books make better writers for sure!
Here is my Top Ten Tuesday post.
Yes!!
Great reasons! I agree with them all. I especially love #3 because I can always have a book on me. On Sunday, I was bored in church, so I surreptitiously opened up my Kindle and found something to read that was a lot more entertaining! LOL
BTW: I mentioned you in my TTT list today π
Happy TTT!

Haha!! I love that! When I was a kid, I would write songs and poems during church. π
Ooooh, thank you for the mention. Now I’m curious. <3
I love all your thoughts about books, Dedra. I would add that books are wonderful companions when you are alone.
That’s a good one, Carla! All my life, books have been a friend when I was lonely, too. <3
Great list, Dedra! I’m thankful for books for many of the reasons you’ve mentioned as well. Totally forgot to add that I’m thankful for the great view they provide me every morning when I open my eyes and see my gorgeous shelves, hehe π
Yes!! They’re so pretty! π€©
Books being pretty is the reason I own way too many of them. π
Same!! Haha!
These are all great reasons to be thankful for books! I am thankful for them for these reasons as well.
Books serve so many purposes, don’t they!
So many good reasons! I love that books can go anywhere, they are definitely fun to collect, and they are pretty! Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!
I agree!!
These are some great reasons! The pretty and collectible ones go well together. π Also, I love how portable books have become. So much easier to go on vacation with an e-reader and not need to worry (as much) about which books to pack!
My TTT: https://bookwyrmknits.com/2023/11/21/top-ten-tuesday-forthcoming-sf/
Yes! I usually still take one or two physical books, but it’s nice knowing I have a library of choices on my phone and kindle. π
Books can go anywhere. That’s a good one!
Yes!! Sometimes I spend more time picking out books than clothes to take when I travel. π
Exactly right! Great post!
Thank you! <3
