Top Ten Tuesday: Non-Fiction Books With Humorous Titles

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovely Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week a new theme is suggested for bloggers to participate in. This week’s prompt is Books With Funny Titles.

Hello Readers! I hope you’re all doing well, enjoying nice weather, reading great books, and getting to talk about them. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I’ve been participating in the Trope-ical Readathon this month, and it’s doing its job, forcing me to read more quickly. It’s always nice to get through some of those backlist books! I’ll share a wrap-up post letting you know how it went at the end of the month. <3

Over the last year, books that make us laugh have become even more important. I find myself reaching for the books I think will put a smile on my face and a cheer in my heart. And while that usually means I’m picking up a rom-com, I do enjoy non-fiction or memoirs that make me laugh. They tend to have those eye-catching titles that make me stop and take another look. Today, I’ll be sharing a mix of books I’ve read, books on my TBR, and books I don’t plan on reading, but the titles make me chuckle!

(Link to Goodreads synopsis through book title.)

  1. I Want to Be Where the Normal People Are by Rachel Bloom – I came across Bloom’s memoir on Netgalley and the title had me immediately. I had fun reading this one! (My Review)
  2. Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling – I’ve listened to two of Kaling’s books as audiobooks and thoroughly enjoyed them both. This one just has the best title!
  3. Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris – I’ve read several of Sedaris’ books, but this one is still waiting on my shelf. I’ve been known to cry from laughing so much while reading Sedaris.
  4. Bossypants by Tina Fey – Another one waiting on my shelf is Tina Fey’s well-known memoir. It’s one of those books that I feel like everyone has read but me.
  5. Sorry I’m Late, I Didn’t Want to Come by Jessica Pan – An introvert’s anthem, this memoir is on my TBR.
  6. This Will Only Hurt a Little by Busy Philipps – Philipps memoir isn’t currently on my TBR, but I’ve heard great things about it. It has a great title!
  7. The Grass is Always Greener Over the Septic Tank by Erma Bombeck – Bombeck has several books with funny titles, but this one made me smile the most!
  8. I Feel Bad About My Neck: And Other Thoughts on Being a Woman by Nora Ephron – I do love Ephron’s movies!
  9. I Was Told There’d Be Cake by Sloane Crosley – I don’t know anything about this collection of essays except that it has a great title.
  10. What I Was Doing While You Were Breeding by Kristin Newman – I love the idea of this memoir, but I was scared off by some of the low star reviews.

Did I include any of your favorites? Let me know in the comments!

Happy Wandering!

  2. So many great books on here! I LOVE Kaling. I haven’t read any of Sedaris yet and I don’t know why. I just put the audio for Sorry, I’m Late… on hold because that sounds like my kind of book! haha

    1. Oooh, I’ll be excited to hear what you think about Sorry I’m Late! You should give Sedaris a try! Especially if you like dry, sarcastic humor. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  3. I LOVED Sorry I’m Late! โค๏ธ I’m so glad that I came across that book cos I read it when I really needed it and related so much to Pan’s story. I hope you enjoy it! I really laughed out loud when I read the What I Was Doing While You Were Breeding title ๐Ÿคฃ Too bad it seems to have low ratings? It’s definitely a title that piques my interest! Great list, Dedra!

    1. That’s right! I remember you saying how much you enjoyed it. I think it was your review that made me add it to my tbr. ๐Ÿ™‚ Hopefully I can pick up a copy soon! What I Was Doing While You Were Breeding IS such a great title. I was hoping someone would comment saying they’ve read it and let us know how it was.

  4. These are great Dedra. I have read Mindy Kaling’s, Tina Fey’s and Erma Bombeck, but the others look great as well. I like your take this week.

  5. I think nonfiction really has the market on funny book titles, doesn’t it? I love your whole list! My husband actually has a shirt that says “Sorry Iโ€™m Late, I Didnโ€™t Want to Come” so that made me laugh even harder. I feel like “I Was Told Thereโ€™d Be Cake” could be the title of my biography. xD

    1. Haha! I need that shirt, too. I just know I’d be too much of a chicken to wear it in public. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I Was Told There’d Be Cake is such a GREAT title. <3

  6. Oooh good reminder of Mindy Kaling – that whole mini series of books she did were funny titles AND content. ^.^ I included your post in mine this week, I hope you don’t mind!
