Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovely Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week a new theme is suggested for bloggers to participate in. This week’s prompt is My Ten Most Recent Reads (maybe share a one-sentence review to go with?).
Hello Readers! We’ve made it to May! I’m more than ready for warmer temps, sunshine, and being able to read outdoors. Now that I’m fully vaccinated, I’ve been venturing out to more stores. I still haven’t made it to the bookstore, but I’m hoping to do that soon!
Today I did a bit of a twist. I’ll be sharing my ten most recent reads that I didn’t review on my blog. (Starting with the most recent.) In March, I participated in a readathon so I read several backlist books and short stories that I didn’t share full reviews for, so this is the perfect time to talk about those! But I also had to go all the way back to Christmas, which means I’ve done a good job of staying on top of reviews, I guess. I’ll be taking inspiration from Jana’s suggestion and sharing three words to describe each book. 🙂
(Link to Goodreads synopsis through book title.)
- The Talented Mr. Ripley by Patricia Highsmith – Atmospheric, complex, and enigmatic
- Burning Girls by Veronica Schanoes – (Novella) Unique, dark, and magical
- The Black God’s Drums by P. Djèlí Clark – (Novella) Fascinating, layered, and fully-formed
- Queenie by Candice Carty-Williams – Hilarious, gut-wrenching, and emotional
- The Bookshop on the Corner by Jenny Colgan – Adventurous, bookish, and corner-less
- The Duke and I (Bridgertons, #1) by Julia Quinn – Humorous, delightful, and sexy
- Passing by Nella Larsen – Well-written, intriguing, and surprising
- One Wish in Manhattan by Mandy Baggot – Fun, charming, and romantic
- It Happened at Christmas by Christen Krumm – Sweet, (but) contrived, and rushed
- My Last Continent by Midge Raymond – Unputdownable, harrowing, and beautiful
What’s your favorite most recent read? Did I include any of your favorites? Let me know in the comments!
Happy Wandering!
COMMENT ERRORS:
Over the past few months, I was informed that some commenters were unable to leave comments on my posts. This was due to a new firewall that was blocking comments. I believe it’s fixed, but if you notice that your comments aren’t posting here, PLEASE let me know by contacting me via Instagram or Twitter. Unfortunately, I have no idea they’re being blocked unless someone lets me know. And know that I always return visits and comments on TTT posts, so if I haven’t visited your blog lately, I apologize. It’s been an ordeal and a learning experience. <3
Great list! I’ve heard such good things about The Black God’s Drums and I’d really like to try Queenie and Burning Girls, too.
Thank you! I highly recommend The Black God’s Drums! I used it to fill a very specific prompt on my Popsugar Reading Challenge, but I really enjoyed it! 🙂
Happy May! I love that you chose to share the books you didn’t end up reviewing on the blog! Also, the Burning Girls cover is stunning!

It just worked out that I had several books I hadn’t had much of a chance to talk about yet. I love it when TTT works out like that. 😉
That is great that you are fully vaccinated. I am going for my first dose later in the month (heaven help me!) The Bookshop on the Corner is one I have been wanting to read. You had me at bookish.
Yay for getting vaccinated!! You’ll do great. I only had a sore arm with my first dose but I felt a little yucky for about a day after the second dose. Totally worth it, though. 😉 I hope you can pick up The Bookshop on the Corner soon. It was a quick and lovely read!
Ooh, I like the three words about a book idea. I’ll have to keep that in mind when I want to do short impressions of books without doing a full review.

I definitely stole that from other bloggers, but I love it, too! Sometimes I enjoy reading the short, quick reviews more than the longer ones. And I like that it forces me to choose my descriptions carefully. 😉
Yes, absolutely! Short reviews make you think about it more. I’ve started adding one-sentence reviews to my book review posts (which I also go from another blogger) in part because it makes me think more about what I want to include.
I love it when people are able to describe a book using only a few words… it’s a skill I’m very bad at, haha. I haven’t heard of any of these, but the winter-themed ones seem cute! I might have to check those out around the holidays!
Haha. It does take some thought to come up with something more creative. I took a look at my reviews and chose buzz words from those that stood out. 🙂
Nice twist Dedra. I have had Queenie on my list for a while, thanks for the reminder.
Thanks Carla! I’d had Queenie on my tbr for a long time, too. It was nice to finally pick it up. 🙂
Great books! I really enjoyed Queenie, definitely a book I’m happy I read. Thanks for sharing!
Yes! I’m so happy I finally read it. <3
I review books on my blog from time to time, or try to. There are some that have gone unreviewed because I waited too long — I feel like there is a prime time to review after finishing the book, at least for me, and waiting too long results in cloudy memory. I don’t review books on Goodreads anymore, though, because it’s harder to keep up with in the long run…and I just like things to be on my blog instead. XD
We really want to read Bridgerton after having watched the series. 😮
Makes sense! When I’m writing a review for an ARC, I typically write my review right away on Evernote, then I can copy and paste it into my blog and Goodreads closer to the publishing date. If it’s an older book I know I won’t review on the blog, then I’ll go ahead and just write my review on Goodreads. But I have done some reviews on the blog for “older” books and I call them Highlight Reviews. I think it’s so interesting how we all have different techniques. 🙂
I’ve only read the first book, but I had a lot of fun with it. Thanks for stopping by. <3
This is a fun way to share books you haven’t written full reviews for! I have a bunch I’m still hoping to review in some way, whether mini reviews or full, but it’ll still take me some time to get to them
Yes! I wish I would do more mini reviews like this. But I’m not a fast reader, so I usually have time for full reviews. Haha.
Loved this idea of sharing three words for the book—what a great way to do some really mini reviews! All of these sound brilliant as well and I do have some of them (Black God’s Drums, Queenie, Bookshop on the Corner) on my TBR so I’m quite looking forward to those. Great post!
I really enjoyed this mini review style, too! It was fun. If only I was a faster reader and then I would have a better excuse to use them. Haha!
