Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovely Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week a new theme is suggested for bloggers to participate in. This week’s prompt is Top Ten Quick Reads/Books to Read When Time is Short (Books under 150 pages, or if youβre not a novella reader maybe spin this to be books you could read in a day or a single sitting.) (Submitted by Jennifer @ FunkNFiction.com and Angela @ Reading Frenzy)
Hello Readers! What a great topic for this week. As someone who participates in the Popsugar Reading Challenge every year, there are always those few prompts that are harder to fill or that are out of my usual genres, and a quick read is a great way to cross those books off my list. Today I’m sharing some of my favorite quick reads—books under 200 pages. It’s only when I finished choosing my list that I realized they are all primarily classics. I guess they’re my go-to when I need something I can read in one sitting.
Let’s take a look at some of my favorite quick reads!
(Link to Goodreads synopsis through book title.)
- 84, Charing Cross Road by Helene Hanff (106 pages)
- The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros (110 pages)
- Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel GarcΓa MΓ‘rquez (120 pages)
- Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton (136 pages)
- The Whale Rider by Witi Ihimaera (152 pages)
- Good Morning, Midnight by Jean Rhys (159 pages)
- To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf (177 pages)
- The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald (180 pages)
- Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf (194 pages)
- If Beale Street Could Talk by James Baldwin (197 pages)
Have you read any of these yet? Let me know in the comments!
The only book on your list I’ve read is The Great Gatsby, but I read it at school so it’s been along time since I picked it up! I’ve been interested in James Baldwin’s work for a while so I’ll have to give If Beale Street Could Talk a try π
I hope you get to pick up Baldwin soon! I made my husband read it recently, and her enjoyed it, as well. π₯°
I had no idea some of these book were so short. Look at that!
I was surprised by a few of them, too!
It’s surprising how short some of these are! Like, The Great Gatsby being under 200 pages? Had no idea.
Yes! Same here.
The House on Mango Street has been on a few different lists this week. It sounds good.
Here is my Top Ten Tuesday post.
It was very moving! And easy to read in one sitting.
Whale Rider sounds interesting.
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.
I enjoyed it even more than I expected!
The only one of these I’ve read is The Great Gatsby. I didn’t realize it wasn’t longer than 200 pages. It just must have felt that way in high school. lol. Great list!
Haha! Yep, those books we read in school always feel longer, don’t they?
I remember reading The Great Gatsby in high school, but I honestly don’t remember any of the story. The rest of these I have either never heard of or never read.
It seems like readers either love The Great Gatsby or hate it. π
The Great Gatsby was one of my favorite books my class read in high school. π
Me too!
Oh wow, the only one of these I’ve read is Gatsby. (And it’s been decades.) But several of the others are on my TBR list. It is interesting how many classics are shorter books!
Happy reading! My TTT: https://bookwyrmknits.com/2024/02/06/top-ten-tuesday-favorite-novellas/
I didn’t realize it either, until I started working on this post. π
I love 84 Charring Cross Road. Happy reading. My TTT https://readwithstefani.com/top-10-short-books/

Yes!! I don’t read enough of them.
I just read 84 Charing Cross Road this past November for Novellas in November and enjoyed it. I will keep you list bookmarked for later this year when I plan my reads for this year’s challenge, Dedra.
Yay!! It was such a sweet story!
