Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovely Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week a new theme is suggested for bloggers to participate in. This week’s prompt is Books With an Adjective In the Title (Submitted by Nicole @ How to Train a Book Dragon).
Hello Readers! I hope you’re all well and safe as we fly through March. Today we’re looking at books with adjectives in the title. Is it just me, or does anyone else suddenly start overthinking grammar with these kinds of prompts? I found myself staring at titles thinking, IS that an adjective??
It just worked out that the books I chose ended up including five books I’ve read and five on my my to-be-read list. Some of these titles also included TWO adjectives. (Do I get bonus points for that?) And not too surprisingly, several included the words ‘big’ and ‘small’. I also tried to use books I haven’t talked about too much lately.
Let’s see what I chose!
(Link to Goodreads synopsis through book title.)
- Big Girl, Small Town by Michelle Gallen – From my review: “…darkly humorous and satisfyingly odd.”
- The Lost Love Song by Minnie Darke – From my review: “Minnie Darke magically weaves a tale of love thatβs modern and unique.”
- Big Lies in a Small Town by Diane Chamberlain – From my review: “Diane does an excellent job fleshing out the characters, the setting, and the plot.”
- These Shallow Graves by Jennifer Donnelly – From my Goodreads review: “…an engrossing and well-plotted mystery that is hard to put down.”
- Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty – From my Goodreads review: “…the perfect amount of distraction and entertainment, without being heavy and intrusive.”
- Now a Major Motion Picture by Cory McCarthy – YA love story that takes place in Ireland on a film set. Yes, please!
- The Coldest Winter Ever by Sister Souljah – Sadly this book has been waiting on my bookshelf for four years. It continually pops up on must-read lists. I need to make it happen.
- The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot DΓaz – My daughter read this one in college and passed it on to me to read. I haven’t picked it up yet because it’s sure to be very emotional.
- Second First Impressions by Sally Thorne – This one seems to have mixed reviews, with some of my favorite authors and reviewers saying they loved it, and others saying it was just okay. Which only makes me more intrigued.
- Ten Tiny Breaths by K.A. Tucker – One of Tucker’s more popular romances that I’ve yet to read, I picked up an ebook on sale in December. Hopefully I can get to it soon!
Have you read any of these yet? Let me know in the comments!
Great list. The only one I’ve read is the last by Tucker. I enjoyed it.
Good to hear! I’m hoping to pick it up sooner than later. π
What a great list. I should have thought of Second First Impressions for my list!
Two for the price of one! π
I had to look up what an adjective was π€£ I havenβt read any of these but Second First Impressions caught my eye!
Glad I’m not alone! Haha! Google was my friend this week.
Haha!! Yes, I had to keep asking my husband to double check!! ππ€¦π»ββοΈ Great list!
My Top Ten!
I was very tempted to ask the hubby to double check mine, but I just used google instead. Haha!
hahaha!! that’s also a great option!
I feel I am in the minority with Thorne’s book, but I loved it. I loved the old people, the friendship, the whole thing. McCarthy’s book was great too.
Oh yay! That makes me very hopeful since we usually agree on books. π I can’t wait to get to McCarthy’s book, as well!
Fingers crossed!
Great list! I totally think you should get bonus points for the titles with two adjectives. π
My TTT
Haha! I’ll take it!
Kudos on the double adjectives. π Ten Tiny Breaths was my first by Tucker. It’s still a favorite.
I *really* want to get to it soon! I feel confident it’s one I’ll love. π
Great list Dedra. I have read three of these.
Thanks Carla! <3
I definitely questioned myself often while coming up with the list this week and I’m kinda glad to know that I’m not the only one who did! π I have quite a few of these on my TBR and I’m looking forward to reading them. I hope you enjoy the ones you haven’t read yet!
You’re definitely not alone! I’ve never understood how as someone who reads so much, I have a terrible grasp of grammar. Haha!
I’ve heard really good things about Now a Major Motion Picture. Hope you end up enjoying it.
Oh yay! I love hearing that!
