Top Ten Tuesday: Books That Exude Summer

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovely Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week a new theme is suggested for bloggers to participate in. This week’s prompt is Bookish Wishes, but I’m overwhelmed with new books at the moment. πŸ˜¬πŸ˜…

Hello Readers! My husband and I took a quick getaway for our anniversary and despite planning on spending some time working on the blog, I ended up not even opening my laptop. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈSo my unplanned hiatus means you’re getting a last-minute Top Ten Tuesday change.

Since today is the official First Day of Summer here in the Northern Hemisphere, I decided to share books I’ve read that exude summer. Those books that have you convinced you can feel the sun shining on your skin, the beads of perspiration on your brow, hear the lapping of the waves against the rocks, and smell the coconut scent of the suntan lotion. And most of them even have the word ‘summer’ in the title!

Here are some books that had me completely immersed in their summer vibes!

(Link to Goodreads synopsis through book title.)

  1. The Summer I Turned Pretty Series by Jenny Han – This series might not have been perfect, but it did transport me back to my own teen years and those summers of young love. I’m very excited to watch the new adaptation.
  2. Hurricane Summer by Asha Bromfield – My favorite thing about this novel was the beautiful setting of Jamaica. (My Review)
  3. Every Summer After by Carley Fortune – Yes, I’m still talking about this one… So very immersive, especially if you like to spend the summer at the lake. (My Review)
  4. Summer Hours by Amy Mason Doan – My favorite book by the author so far, I adored this novel set along the Pacific Coast that flashes between the past and present. (My Review)
  5. The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren – Set in Hawaii, it’s a novel I never wanted to end and one I would love to reread soon!
  6. The Invincible Summer of Juniper Jones by Daven McQueen – This historical YA novel deals with serious topics, and the author successfully uses the oppressive summer heat to convey the dangerousness of the volatile time. Highly recommend! (My Review)
  7. Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid – Another historical fiction novel that wonderfully captures that nostalgic feeling of summer. (My Review)
  8. Love & Olives by Jenna Evans Welch – I adored all the books in this series (each one is a stand alone), but this one set in Greece fully immersed me in the summery locale. (My Pictorial Review)
  9. One Italian Summer by Rebecca Serle – While this wasn’t my favorite book by the author, I did enjoy the mesmerizing Italian setting. (My Review)
  10. Our Little World by Karen Winn – Another book I’ve talked about a lot lately, this mystery set in a suburban neighborhood in the summer of 1985 made me so very nostalgic for my own childhood summers. (My Review)

Have you read any of these? What’s your favorite summer-immersive read? Let me know in the comments!

Happy Wandering!

  2. Nice list Dedra. I just picked up Every Summer After from the library today. It is definitely summer, it was over 100 with the humidex today. I’m glad you and your husband got away for your anniversary and had a great relaxing time.

    1. I’ll be excited to hear your thoughts on Every Summer After! We’ve consistently been in the 100s here in Texas, too. And the humidity is brutal! Stay cool, Carla! <3
