Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovely Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week a new theme is suggested for bloggers to participate in. This week’s prompt is Cozy Reads!
Hello Readers! Life and Nanowrimo has had me struggling to blog this month, so I apologize for being somewhat absent. But I have been reading! I finished my Popsugar Reading Challenge, and I’ve been so busy, I didn’t even know I’d completed my Goodreads goal until a few days after. π I have a feeling December will be just as busy!
When I first saw today’s prompt, I thought it was very similar to the Comfort Reads prompt we did back in May, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized they can be quite different. Cozy reads don’t have to be comforting. They can be scary or thrilling or sad, but still be cozy. So my choices are books I wanted to snuggle down to read, wrapped in a warm blanket, a warm drink in hand, and maybe even a fire nearby. I could have just filled this list with Christmas or Classic books, so I left all of those off my list.
Let’s see what books I cuddled up to read!
(Link to Goodreads synopsis through book title.)
- One Night on the Island by Josie Silver – Don’t be fooled by the title and cover, this isn’t a summery kind of island romance. It’s set on a remote Irish island with blustery, chilly, and rainy weather. One of my favorite reads of the year! (My Review)
- The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater – Another blustery, chilly island setting, this one is written so well and perfect to cuddle up with!
- Spells for Forgetting by Adrienne Young – Apparently my favorite cozy reads have blustery island setiings… This YA novel is reminiscent of The Scorpio Races but with a more mysterious slant. (My Review)
- Eight Perfect Hours by Lia Louis – Finding a cozy place to read is a must for this romance that starts with our characters trapped in traffic when a sudden snowstorm leaves them stranded for the night. (My Review)
- The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune – I was so very happy to discover the love for this book is well-deserved. Such a joyful book to cuddle up with!
- Enjoy the View by Sarah Morgenthaler – I think this one may be my favorite Mogenthaler book from the Moose Springs, Alaska series! At least top two. I have thing for mountain climbing books, and this was my first one in the romance genre. I need more! (My Review)
- Once Upon a River by Diane Setterfield – It’s been a few years since I read this one, but I still remember the deeply atmospheric feelings of magic it ignited!
- Outlander by Diana Gabaldon – I think Outlander will always appear on my recommendations for cozy reads. It’s a hefty book, perfect for sinking into on a long wintery day.
- The Family Upstairs by Lisa Jewell – A mystery set in an old house with plenty of dark corners and strange happenings! (My Review)
- Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer – Remember I said I like mountain climbing books? This may be the book that started that fascination. I’ve read this harrowing true story several times, often while curled up near a fire.
What’s your coziest book recommendation? Let me know in the comments!
Great list. Loved 2, 5, 8. Adding a few from your list to my TBR. Happy reading!
Congrats on finishing 2 challenges!
Oooh, some of my favorites, too! Happy you found some to add, as well. Thank you! <3
Look at you completing all those reading goals with more than a month to spare. Killing it! Silver and Louis are favorites of mine, and I adored those Moose Springs books. I wish there were more
Thank you! It feels pretty good to tick off those goals.
You got me thinking about Morgenthaler and wondering why we haven’t had a new book. I went searching her Instagram and apparently her husband passed away in April! So terribly sad. According to her posts she is writing again, but she didn’t really say what. I’m assuming the 4th Moose Springs book.
That is so sad
I agree that comfort and cosy books are different.
A good looking list. I love The House in the Cerulean Sea.
Have a great week!

Happy reading Emily!
Thank you. You too βΊοΈ
Wonderful list! Yes, Outlander is perfect for a cozy read, and so is Eight Perfect Hours.
Both super cozy, right?!
Yes, exactly! Cozy reads and comfort reads are related, but not the same. The House in the Cerulean Sea made my list of cozy SFF this week, too. π

It took me a moment to think it through, though! π
One Night on the Island felt like a cozy read to me as well.
Yes! I expected it to be summery, which is silly because of where it’s located. I much preferred it the way it is. π
Fun list! I really loved Enjoy the View. And Into Thin Air was such a compelling read. π
Yes! So compelling. I’m so fascinated by people who have that drive to climb Mount Everest. It’s not me, though. π
Congrats on meeting your Goodreads goal!! And I love your list – so many great, cozy reads!
Thank you! <3
I haven’t read the books on your list, but some are on my TBR. I agree Josie Silver and Lia Louis books are cozy.
Oh, I hope you enjoy them as much as I did when you get to them!
Oh yes, the Cerulean Sea is wonderful. I’ve got Spells for Forgetting, One Night on the Island and Eight Perfect Hours on my TBR and I’ve heard great things about all titles. I can’t wait to read them! π
I can’t wait for you to read them, either! I would love to hear your thoughts. Happy Reading!
Great twist, Dedra. I have read several of these and agree, they were ones to read while sipping a hot beverage, and near the fireplace.
Great minds think alike, right Carla? π
I can think of nothing more pleasurable than a good book, a blanket and a hot drink during the colder months. I usually find the genre I am interested changes as I get into the colder months too! Eight Perfect Hours and One Night on the Island have been added to my TBR pile (thank you!) My favorite cozy read in November was “The Placeholder” by Lynda Wolters (her website – https://www.lyndawolters.com/). I don’t want to call it a romance book because it really has so much more to it. The main character, Sera, has gone through a nasty divorce in her 40s and unfortunately, does not have much luck in the dating world either. Luckily, she has a true-blue friend Carolyn who suggests having a “placeholder” – someone fun she can hook up with until Mr. Right comes along. I am sure you can guess it gets complicated as soon as handsome Zac comes into the picture. Not to mention he is still in love with his wife (recently divorced). Although the book may seem like a light-hearted romp there is a big twist that will take your breath away. I finished this in one weekend and was sad when it was over. The book made me laugh, cry, and I have already bought it for a few friends for Christmas. I hope you will check it out. Happy Reading!
