Top Ten Tuesday: Bookish Jobs I Would Do For Free

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovely Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week a new theme is suggested for bloggers to participate in. This week’s prompt is Bookish Jobs I Would Do For Free (Real or Imaginary) (Submitted by Susan @ Bloggin’ bout Books)

Hello Readers! Today’s topic is a fun one. I’ve added a bit of a twist by also including books that feature the careers I’ve chosen. I don’t know if I can say I’d actually do them ALL for free for a long period of time, but I’d do them for free for a few days, at least as they’re featured in the book settings. Most of these are books I’ve read and enjoyed, but there are a few books from my TBR. And not too surprising, they all include some form of romance. I’m a sucker for bookish romances.

πŸŽ‰It’s the last day to enter the giveaways I’m hosting to celebrate my 4th Blogiversary, so be sure to do that right away! πŸŽ‰

Let’s see what I came up with!

(Link to Goodreads synopsis through book title.)

1

Author

In How Sweet It Is by Dylan Newton, Kate is a wedding planner who’s been hired to plan a horror novelist’s book launch. What could go wrong, right?! I thought this was a cute romance, and it takes place around Halloween, which is fun if you’re a seasonal reader. (My Review)

2

Publishing

I enjoyed the behind-the-scenes look inside a small publisher in Meet Me in the Margins by Melissa Ferguson. The romance was good, too. πŸ˜‰ (My Review)

3

Editor

Another romance set in the publishing world, in Book Lovers by Emily Henry we get rival book editors. (My Review)

4

Bookseller

While I didn’t love the entirety of The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin, I did love the bookstore setting and Amelia’s job as a bookseller. (My Review)

5

Screenwriter

This is one of the few Christina Lauren books I haven’t read yet, but Twice in a Blue Moon is waiting on my shelf. From what I understand, it’s about a screenwriter.

6

Sketch Writer

I absolutely adored Romantic Comedy by Curtis Sittenfeld! Smart and funny, some of my favorite parts were the behind-the-scenes look at writing and planning the sketches for their late-night live comedy show. (My Review)

7

Bookstore Owner

I’d for sure run a Christmas bookshop in Edinburgh for free if it included room and board! The Christmas Bookshop by Jenny Colgan is charming and festive, perfect to pick up over the holidays. (My Review)

8

Librarian

Another one I haven’t read yet, in The Last Chance Library by Freya Sampson, June is the librarian in a small English village, and that’s all the description I need to know I’d do the job for free!

9

Bookmobile

The Bookshop on the Corner by Jenny Colgan is about an ex-librarian who starts her own bookmobile in Scotland, and it had me day dreaming for weeks. It perfectly combines two of my loves—books and road trips!

10

Book Blogger!

And last but not least, a job many of us already do for free—a book blogger! I just celebrated 4 years in September. πŸŽ‰

What bookish job would you do for free? Let me know in the comments!

Happy Wandering!

  1. This list is so fun. I love that you cleverly included books for your potential jobs, too! Melissa’s books are on my TBR list and I even own some. Just have to make the time to read them. πŸ™‚

  2. Oh my goodness I can’t believe I haven’t heard of The Bookshop on the Corner before! That’s 100% going on my tbr now, thanks! And congrats on 4 years πŸ™‚
