Top Ten Tuesday: 2021 Releases I Was Excited To Read But Didn’t Get To

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovely Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week a new theme is suggested for bloggers to participate in. This week’s prompt is  2021 Releases I Was Excited to Read But Didn’t Get To.

Hello Readers! I hope you’re all safe and well. Covid-19 has once again closed schools and many businesses here in Texas. We’re just hunkered down waiting for the wave to pass. Again. It grows harder and harder to watch those around us continue to get sick (sometimes for the second time) when it’s all so avoidable. Please get vaccinated if you haven’t already. Protect yourself and protect others. ❤️❤️ Okay, that’s all for my public service announcement. 😉

Today we’re looking at 2021 releases we wanted to read but didn’t quite get to in time. Most of these are books I already own, as well. So no more excuses. These are the 2021 releases I fully intend on reading in 2022!

Let’s see what I chose! I’ll be listing them in order of their publishing dates.

(Link to Goodreads synopsis through book title.)

  1. The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah – (published on February 2, 2021) I’ve already added this historical fiction set in Texas to my shelves, and I’ve penciled it in on my reading challenge for the year. Hopefully that will make me finally pick it up.
  2. Namesake (Fable, #2) by Adrienne Young – (published on March 16, 2021) I absolutely loved Fable and I can’t believe I still haven’t read the follow-up. I’m ready for more high seas adventures!
  3. Firekeeper’s Daughter by Angeline Boulley – (published on March 16, 2021) I was able to read an excerpt of this YA novel on Bookishfirst before it was published and I was hooked. I can’t wait to finish it! I’ve been so happy to see all the attention it’s receiving. It’s waiting on my shelves, as well.
  4. Just Last Night by Mhairi McFarlane – (published on April 1, 2021) I picked up an ebook of this romance about four friends a few months ago when it was on sale. It sounds like it might be another one of those super emotional books where the cutesy cover can be misleading. Which only intrigues me more! 😉
  5. Seven Days in June by Tia Williams – (published on June 1, 2021) This was the buzzy book of summer, and it sounds like an angsty, drama-filled romance I would love to be immersed in. I have to read it. Preferably in the summer.
  6. We Are Inevitable by Gayle Forman – (published on June 1, 2021) I’ve been a fan of Forman since I read If I Stay. I read an excerpt of this one, as well, and I have to finish this romance that involves a failing bookstore.
  7. The Heart Principle (The Kiss Quotient, #3) by Helen Hoang – (published August 31, 2021) I enjoyed the first two books in this romance series and was happily gifted the third from my TTT Bookish Wishes post in December! I can’t wait to finally pick it up.
  8. Beautiful World, Where Are You by Sally Rooney – (published on September 7, 2021) I know Rooney’s writing style can be polarizing, but I was intrigued by Normal People. It was odd and refreshing and yes, I loved the adaptation more than the book, but now I want to read everything by Rooney.
  9. The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood – (published on September 14, 2021) Maybe THE romance of the year, this one was super hyped and I have to know what all the buzz is about.
  10. Bad Girls Never Say Die by Jennifer Mathieu – (published on October 19, 2021) Another one set in Texas, I read an excerpt of this gender swapped retelling of The Outsiders and immediately snagged a copy on Bookishfirst. I had every intention of reading it right away, but didn’t make it happen. Hopefully in 2022!

Have you read any of these yet? Are they waiting on your tbr, too? Let me know in the comments!

Happy Wandering!

  1. Great list, Dedra! I had The Heart Principle and Beautiful World on my TTT today too but a few of the others are also on my TBR. I’m really keen to check out Seven Days in June, even though I think I have to be in the right mood for that romance 😂 The Love Hypothesis was one of my faves last year and I hope you enjoy it! Happy reading whenever you get to these!

    1. Yay! We finally have some books in common again. Haha! Maybe one of those would work as a buddy read!? 🙂 Once I get past my stack of current ARCs, The Love Hypothesis is at the top of my tbr. Hopefully for February! Happy reading to you, too!

  2. I have read your first two and have the third teed up on audio. I also want to read The Love Hypothesis, The Heart Principle and Just Last Night. Too many good books, not enough time. I hope you get a chance to read all of these and that you enjoy them all Dedra. Just an FYI, I agree with you about the vaccination, I have also had my booster, and hope to stay healthy.

    1. Yes! Never enough time for all these amazing books. 😉 I guess that’s what’s so frustrating, when those of us who have done everything we can to be vaccinated and protected, still have to be so cautious. <3

  3. So many great books on here. I plan to read Firekeeper’s Daughter next week! Finally, haha! I still need to read Heart Principle too. There’s just so many books.

    1. I know, right?! I have Firekeeper’s Daughter penciled in for February or March. I’m trying to get ahead of all these ARCs at the moment. I need to remember to accept less at the start of the year. Haha!

  4. Firekeeper’s Daughter is high on my list, too! There’s just not enough time to read all the books I want to. Hopefully you’ll enjoy these when you get to them! 100% agree that everyone should protect themselves and others. I just got my booster last week, so I’m at least feeling less anxious at the moment.

    1. Never enough time! Hopefully we can both get to Firekeeper’s Daughter soon. And yay for your booster! I’m just ready to be able to relax again. I feel like I’ve been on high alert for two years. Since we’re in Texas, it’s always in the back of my mind that most of the people around me are probably not vaccinated. 😉

      1. Fingers crossed that we can both read (and enjoy!) it soon! Ugh, sounds like you’re not in an ideal location for relaxing anywhere near other people. I’m at least in an area with a relatively high vaccination rate, though of course it’s also highly populated so there’s still lots of cases to deal with.

    1. Yes! I have several of hers to get to, including The Nightingale. I think that’s been part of my hold-up. I feel bad reading them out of order from oldest to newest. Ha!

  5. I enjoy McFarlane. I need to read that one too. I LOVED the Forman and Hazelwood books. Both were amazing for me. I keep going back and forth on the Hoang book. I really liked her other books, but this one sounds really sad.

    1. I’ve definitely heard more mixed reviews for The Heart Principle than the other two, but I feel like I HAVE to read it. Ha! Since I’m *usually* a fan of sad books, I’m curious to see if this is one I’ll like more than others have. 😉
