Olympic Book Tag: Tokyo Style

Shannon @ It Starts at Midnight created a super creative Olympic Book Tag and I couldn’t resist joining in the fun! She’s even made her images available, as well. Be sure to check out her original post and give her credit if you decide to participate. <3

While the Olympics are a year late and plagued with problems—and it might be hard to get into the spirit of the games this year—I liked the suggestion I saw encouraging viewers to enjoy the games by focusing on the athletes. Whether or not the Olympics should be happening—they are. And hopefully without too many people getting Covid.

I don’t typically watch a lot of sports, but I’ve always been a fan of the Olympics. Whether it was summer or winter. I love seeing so many people from so many places come together to strive for something they’ve spent so many years working toward. There’s always plenty of drama, winners and losers, and even more inspiration.

And what better way to celebrate than bringing it back to books. Let’s see who my literary winners are!

Are you surprised I didn’t choose a Romance!? I enjoyed every word of Laura Dave’s newest release.
My Review

I so enjoyed this book set in Ghana—especially learning more about the culture.
My Review

While this one has a somewhat slow pace, it only enhances the tension, leading the reader to a twisty reveal.
My Review

Books rarely make me sob, but this is a recent book that left me emotionally tearful.
My Review

I thought Baker’s latest was unputdownable! Thrilling fun!
My Review

Weir’s latest takes you around the world and out of this world! So well done.
My Review

Besides the fifth book in the Outlander series, this is the longest book I’ve read. And even though it took me several weeks, I enjoyed this truly epic classic.

I remember reading this one into the wee hours of the night, contemplating all kinds of deep thoughts about love and life and time.
My Review

After I finally read this one, I wished I’d have read it sooner. A perfect, lovely book.

I don’t read many horror novels. It’s not that I don’t like them, they’re just not my go-to genre. And it actually takes a lot to scare me in a book. I did read a lot of Dean Koontz when I was younger. I remember this book and its sequel, Seize the Night, making me want to sleep with the lights on.

Not only is this one a great romance, it contains one of my most recent favorite friendships.
My Review

All of Doan’s books are set in the summer, but her latest gave me all kinds of nostalgic summer feels.
My Review

Lots of twists and surprises with this one!

Nope. Didn’t get this one AT ALL.

I FINALLY read this one a few days ago. Gah. Such a beautiful love story. But lots of fighting in this one set during the Trojan War.

I can remember repeatedly checking this one out from the library. I HAVE always loved cats. πŸ˜‰

I definitely wouldn’t have finished this one if I hadn’t been reading it for a reading challenge. Not great.

I know I’m in the minority as a reader who likes a love triangle, but when they’re done right, they’re wonderfully soul-crushing. The second book in The Infernal Devices does just that.

I have MANY favorite road trip books, but this one is near the top.

Nobody writes animals like Sarah Morgenthaler. Her most recent book included an adorable marmot. (Yes, I had to Google it, too!)
My Review

Beach Read was a perfect book for me. Perfect beginning and perfect ending.
My Review

I had to turn to my TBR for books that feature the Olympics. All three of these are highly rated!

  1. I love so many of these books. I mean… we kind of have similar taste so it shouldn’t be surprising! haha. I love the Olympics.. my husband and I both. They are on pretty much all day/night. This year has been weird and really strange. I just hope they all make it out healthy. <3

  2. What a great tag, perfect picks too! Totally agree, Beach Read had the perfect ending and Big Little Lies was constantly throwing me! I really want to read The Last Thing He Told Me, so many people have recommended it.

  3. This is a fun list! I haven’t read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, but feel like I should. (And I’m not watching the Olympics this year. Haven’t watched them in decades.)

    1. I put off reading Guernsey for ages because the title was so strange, but when I finally read it, I adored it! And it’s super short. I think the Olympics hold a lot of nostalgia for me. When I was a kid, we gathered as a family to watch the opening ceremonies and then we would pretty much have them playing all day. πŸ™‚

      1. Agreed, the title is weird! It doesn’t sound at all interesting based on that, but I’ve heard so many good things about it.

My family would always have on select events from the Olympics, so while I miss a few things (mostly gymnastics and figure skating) I wasn’t ever very interested in or even aware of most of the events. I’m not a huge sports fan no matter what the sport is, really.

  4. Aw THANK YOU, I am so excited that you did this! Also, you are adding to my TBR left and right over here, SO many of these sound amazing and I have your reviews open in new tabs πŸ˜‚ Also YES to Project Hail Mary! I loved that book so much! The Other Black Girl and Beach Read are both on my “read ASAP” shelf so I am extra excited to see that they delivered! I haven’t watched *too* much of the Olympics, but I try to catch it when I can- but honestly I am mostly just reading the news about it!

    1. Oooh, I would love to hear your thoughts on The Other Black Girl and Beach Read! I just keep getting spoiled on the Olympic results before I can watch them. Haha!
