Synopsis:
Summer won’t last forever.
Sage Byrd has lived in the coastal town of Spunes, Oregon (not to be confused with Forks, Washington) her entire life. She’s learned to love her small world, with the misfit animals on her hobby farm, and her friendships with the townβs inhabitants. But when her 5-year relationship ends and her ex, town-golden-boy Ian, suddenly gets engaged, Sage needs a winβsomething that will convince everyone to stop pitying her all the time, and to put Ian in his place. The Festival of Spunes, the townβs annual summer competition, would be the perfect opportunity. She just needs a partner.
Fisher Lange was a hotshot chef in New York City until the loss of his sister left him numb, grieving, and responsible for his teenage niece Indy. When Fisher loses his Michelin star along with his love of cooking, his boss sends him and Indy to Spunes on a much-needed summer sabbatical to consult on a restaurant opening. But when clashes with the townspeople threaten his last chance to redeem himself and a kiss with his new neighbor Sage leads to dating rumors, a strategic alliance might just be the best way to turn things around.
A deal is struck. Sage will improve Fisherβs image in the eyes of the town and remove the roadblocks he is facing with the restaurant, and Fisher will be Sageβs partner for the competition. But as their pact quickly turns into steamy rendezvous, emotional wounds begin to heal, and the pair tries to savor every moment, they start to realize that summer is racing by much faster than they would like…
Filled with spicy summer fun, small-town charm, and Big Feelings, this highly anticipated romcom is Tarah DeWittβs best yet.
My thoughts
(Spoiler free)
I couldn’t help but be charmed by Tarah DeWitt’s latest romance Savor It, my first book by the author. If Carmen from The Bear found himself deposited into a Hallmark movie, this might be the result. Delightful, entertaining, and irresistibly sweet, I had fun relaxing into this one.
Lately I’ve found myself hyper critical of romances, unable to be swayed by the comforting predictability, and Savor It could have ended up with the same fate. But try as I might, I couldn’t resist falling into this one. I adored Sage, all her ridiculous animals, and Fisher, even with the stereotypical I-may-look-like-a-bad-boy-but-really-I-have-a-heart-of-gold persona. Circumstances and dialogue that could have easily produced eye rolls were endearing in DeWitt’s capable hands. And once again, predictability became comforting again.
I liked that we learn about each of Sage’s and Fisher’s difficult backstories in this dual POV romance, but they don’t weigh down the characters, they provide substance and emotion as they move forward. It was also refreshing that our couple communicates. I definitely needed that in a romance after reading several based around lack of communication.
I thought being with Fisher would be like cut flowers in a vase. Something lovely I let in, even knowing it couldn’t last forever. The problem is, I messed up and planted him here in all my places. I gave him my dirt, my heart, my home, and now he’s been uprooted again and I’m left with the upturned mess of it all.
And what a concept. A romance with…. ROMANCE! From sexy canoe rides to intense stargazing to simply preparing a meal together, the chemistry between our couple leapt off the page. It’s an open door romance, but not overly descriptive, if you prefer your romances to leave more to the imagination.
There were also a plethora of engaging side characters, with perfect set-ups for more books, I hope, in the same world.
For me, the setting is almost as important as the characters in my romances, and the quaint small-town-farm in Oregon with all the animals, flowers, and food charmed my socks off!
Savor It was deliciously indulgent and I will happily pick up more books by Tarah DeWitt!

About the Author
A Song For A Book
I was excited to discover Tarah DeWitt has playlists for her books on Spotify, so I’ve chosen to highlight “Butterflies” by Kasey Musgrave which DeWitt included on her playlist for Savor It. I’ve shared the playlist below, as well. π
I was just coastin’, never really goin’ anywhere
Caught up in a web
I was gettin’ kind of used to stayin’ there
And out of the blue
I fell for you
Now you’re liftin’ me up, ‘stead of holdin’ me down
Stealin’ my heart, ‘stead of stealin’ my crown
Untangled all the strings ’round my wings that were tied
I didn’t know him and I didn’t know me
Cloud nine was always out of reach
Now I remember what it feels like to fly
You give me butterflies…
Have you read Savor It? Did you add it to your tbr? Let me know in the comments!
The animals really were a plus. I loved Sage’s brothers, too. I would love for DeWitt to return and do their stories. Glad you enjoyed this one!
Yes!! Sometimes it’s hard to do animals in a romance without them being cheesy, but DeWitt did great. And I thought the same thing: the brothers need their own stories. π
Nice review, Dedra. I enjoy books where animals play a role. I’ve never read anything by this author, but it sounds like I should.
I hope you enjoy it! The animals were so fun!
This sounds awesome. I haven’t ever read this author before, but I can’t wait to read this book. π
Yay!! I hope you enjoy it as much as me!
