Top Ten Tuesday: Spring Cleaning | The Last Ten Books I Read, Enjoyed, and Un-hauled

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovely Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week a new theme is suggested for bloggers to participate in. This week’s prompt is Spring Cleaning Freebie (for example, books you’re planning to get rid of for whatever reason, book’s you’d like to clean off your TBR by either reading them or deciding you’re not interested, books that feel fresh and clean to you after winter is over, etc.)

COMMENT ERRORS: Please be aware I’ve been notified by a few fellow bloggers (thank you!!) that they haven’t been able to comment on my blog posts. It’s very odd because some comments are going through and some aren’t. Frustratingly, the only way I know is if someone lets me know. If you’re feeling generous, please send me an email or message me on Instagram or Twitter to let me know if you’re having this issue when you try to comment here. I’ve recently switched blog hosts and I’m still working out the kinks. This newbie is learning a lot lately. πŸ˜‰ Thank you for your patience and for being the best blogging community! <3 <3

Hello Readers! Things are finally feeling very spring-like here in Texas. The weather is warmer, the sun is shining, and the grass (or weeds) are greener!

It always feels good to un-haul books. I did a more in depth clean last year when my husband built me new book shelves, but when I recently tried to go through my books, I was only able to find a few to get rid of. Oops. So today I’ll be looking at the last ten books I read, enjoyed, and un-hauled because I knew I wouldn’t want to read them again someday. I typically get rid of books by posting them at PaperBack Swap, donating them at the library, or dropping them at Half Price Books.

(Link to Goodreads synopsis through book title.)

  1. My Last Continent by Midge Raymond – From my review: “It’s a beautiful story of love—between two people and for a place that should be unloveable.”
  2. Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo – From my review: “After just reading the preface, I was hooked!”
  3. I’m Thinking of Ending Things by Iain Reid – From my review: “If you like a book to mess with your head, then you’ll probably like I’m Thinking of Ending Things.”
  4. Dangerous Girls by Abigail Haas – From my review: “I didn’t want to put it down, furiously turning pages until the shocking end.”
  5. The Bride Test by Helen Hoang – From my review: “Esme’s immigration story is such an important one, and I’m so happy the author decided to tell it.”
  6. 84, Charing Cross Road by Helene Hanff – From my review: “A must-read for every book lover.”
  7. On the Island by Tracey Garvis Graves – From my review: “I’m giving this one four stars for entertainment, because I couldn’t put it down, but the writing was lacking.”
  8. Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng – From my review:Little Fires Everywhere grabs you with its memorable opening and then builds slowly, drawing you into each character.”
  9. The Only Road by Alexandra Diaz – From my review: “Timely and current, it helps to bring the immigrant struggle to life.”
  10. You by Caroline Kepnes – From my review: “What is so great about this book is you find yourself enthralled with Joe. The bad guy. Most of the time I liked him better than Beck. But thankfully, by the end, the world was righted on its axis and I felt like a proper human being again.”

Do you ‘spring clean’ your books? Let me know in the comments!

Happy Wandering!

  1. I thought Dangerous Girls was good too! And On the Island makes me want to go somewhere warm and tropical haha!

  2. This is a great way of looking at it: there are a bunch of books that I loved but won’t be re-reading… and that’s usually my criteria for keeping a book, too. With a very few exceptions, if I’m not going to be re-reading a book, I don’t hang onto it.

    My TTT this week

    1. It finally worked!! Thank you Deanna!!

I definitely enjoyed The Bride Test, but not enough to reread it. Although, I’ll probably reread The Kiss Quotient. πŸ˜‰

  3. I do not re-read at all. I think that’s one of the draws of ebooks for me. I read it and delete it from my Kindle. Loved The Bridge Test and Dangerous Girls. Though, I can’t understand re-reading a mystery/thriller ever. What’s the mystery or the thrill once you’ve read it?

    1. I think one of the reasons I can and do enjoy rereading is because I have a terrible memory. If it’s been a few years, it’s almost like reading it for the first time again. Ha! It’s also a comfort-thing for me. But I do like your idea of deleting ebooks when you finish them. I never do that. I always have this irrational fear that I might want to read it again someday. I need to do a deep clean of my Kindle. πŸ˜‰ I have reread Koontz, but that’s the only thriller-style I think I have read again. I can’t imagine wanting to reread a mystery, though. Unless I’ve forgotten how it ended, I guess. πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

  4. I loved The Bride Test (well, that whole series really!) and I really enjoyed Little Fires Everywhere. I still want to read quite a few of these though–especially intrigued by You cos I’ve seen so many mixed reviews LOL but also 84, Charing Cross Road! Feel like that one has been popping up on my radar a lot as of late so maybe it’s a sign to read it soon?!

Also, I wasn’t able to comment on your post when I was on your site (it said my login expired but I’d just logged in lol) but I’m now on the WordPress reader and commenting/liking okay! 😊 This tends to happen to me a lot lately though so maybe it’s just me lol

    1. Ha! I love that you want to read You because of the mixed reviews. I’m the same way sometimes. It’s like a challenge! πŸ˜‰ I did enjoy You… but I don’t know if I’ll continue to the next book. 84, Charing Cross Road is a must-read! It’s super quick and so so sweet.

Hmmm, thanks for letting me know! That’s a new one. I’m hoping it’s just the transition from hosts that’s throwing things off?? I also turned off my anti-spam plug-in. I may regret that one. Ha! But please let me know if it keeps happening! <3

    1. I DID enjoy Shadow and Bone but I mainly only read it so I could get to know the world before I picked up Six of Crows. It wasn’t necessary at all. And Six of Crows is amazing! That duology will keep a place on my shelves. πŸ˜‰

  5. I like your take on the topic, because we indeed don’t always only unhaul books we didn’t like!
I’m sorry about your commenting issue, I had the same a few months back and it was super annoying. Still not quite sure what caused it, but I switched back from https to http and my commenting issue was gone. Hopefully your issue will be fixed soon too!

    1. Thanks Lindsey! I did just switch from http to https so I bet that’s what it is! But hackers were finding a back-door way to redirect my site to spam so that’s why I switched. And that was so much more of a nightmare than the commenting issue, so I’m scared to go back. Hopefully I can get the kinks worked out. It seems to be better!

  6. I’m always amazed by people who can get rid of their books so readily. Even if I don’t love a book, I don’t want to part with it! Plus, I never know if I might reread the book some day, haha. I finally got my library holds for the Shadow and Bone series, so I’ll finally be reading those soon!

    1. Haha! It is difficult for me. I have to be in just the right mood. I just keep telling myself it means I can add more to my shelves. πŸ˜‰ Oh I hope you enjoy Shadow and Bone! Have you read Six of Crows?

  7. Oh! I love this idea! I normally don’t un-haul books that I enjoyed even if I don’t know if I’ll read it again. I’m always thinking.. but I MIGHT. Even though, I’m not a huge re-reader.. LOL. It makes no sense!! lol. It’s so awesome that you are good at un-hauling books though! It’s a gift. πŸ™‚

    1. It IS always in the back of my mind that I might need them again for some very specific prompt on the Popsugar challenge. Ha! I just tell myself if I have to, I can probably check it out from the library. πŸ˜‰

      1. Haha.. oh yeah.. PopSugar bc that one is tough and so random!! Yes, the library is so great! I haven’t been using my library except for the ebook versions and the waits are insane. I am hoping I’ll be able to go back regularly soon! <3
