Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovely Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week a new theme is suggested for bloggers to participate in. This week’s prompt is Love Freebie.
Hello Readers! We’re less than a week away from Valentine’s Day, and whether you think it’s the most romantic day of the year or just a spare commercial holiday, maybe we can at least agree that the world needs more love. Specifically, more films about love. π I’m a fan of those swoon-y rom-coms from the ’90s, and I’m ready for them to make a big comeback.
For my TTT Love Freebie this week, I decided to focus on romance novels I think deserve to be adapted RIGHT AWAY! Technically, my first three choices have been purchased for adaptation, but it’s been months since we’ve had any updates. And no news isn’t always good news in the film industry.
Here’s what I hope to see on the big screen soon!
(Link to Goodreads synopsis through book title.)
- The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren – This duo’s biggest hit is screaming for an adaptation. The setting of Hawaii alone is reason enough, right?? But this one also has an enemies-to-lovers theme with witty banter and undeniable chemistry between our two leads.
- Roomies by Christina Lauren – Yes, if you’re a fan of these authors, you won’t be surprised they made my list twice. Honestly, this list could be made up from just their books. This book reminds me of Green Card, a ’90’s film I adored about a marriage of convenience that becomes more, but it’s time for an updated version.
- The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang – A woman with Asperger’s hires an escort to teach her about sex! This one is perfect for adapting, especially for the much-needed representation.
- From Lukov With Love by Mariana Zapata – I finally read this one, and it reminded me of a film I used to love, The Cutting Edge, about an enemies-to-lovers pairs skating team. But this is the adult version. I would love to see it adapted.
- Beach Read by Emily Henry – My favorite book of 2020, even as I read it, it played like a movie. I would love to see this romance about two struggling writers trying out each others’ genres on the screen.
- Well Met by Jen DeLuca – This love story set amid a Renaissance Festival would be utterly charming if it were adapted.
- The Simple Wild by K.A. Tucker – A city girl travels to the Alaskan wild to be with the ailing father she barely knows, but in the process fails to impress the rugged, unkempt Alaskan pilot currently running her father’s charter plane company. But try as they might, they can’t ignore those sparks. This is another one I read visually.
- How to Walk Away by Katherine Center – A tragic accident, a reluctant helper, this inspiring story is the perfect ‘overcoming all the odds’ romance!
- Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert – Like The Kiss Quotient, I like the representation in this book. Our lead struggles with chronic illness, which is something that definitely needs more attention in film and television. Plus, there’s a swoon-y love story!
- This Time Next Year by Sophie Cousens – Another book I recently read, I loved the plot for this one: two strangers born minutes apart in the same hospital on New Year’s Day—but end up leading very different lives—meet again on their thirtieth birthdays. I know there have been other films done with a similar idea, but this story was different and refreshing.
Would you like to see any of these adapted? Or do you have another book in mind that would be perfect for adaptation? Let me know in the comments!
Yes!!!! This is a great topic and I agree with all the ones I’ve read here. Christina Lauren and Emily Henry books for sure!! <3
Thanks Leslie! I had fun with this one. π
All the Brown Sisters books would be fun to see, same with the CLo books. Center’s books would be a great emotional experience if done well. Heck, all these would be great. Who am I kidding. You know, I read 9/10 this week. Nice!
Haha! Yay! Maybe someday we’ll get some of these.. π
I cannot wait for more movie rom-coms as well. I’ve read all but that last one and would love to see any of them on the big screen — IF they do them justice.
Yes! It’s also important that they be done well. Hopefully we’ll get a few of these adapted some day. π
I miss the swoony rom-com trend of the 90’s! Even if not all of the films were good, they were all attempts at feel-good movies. I’ve love to see Well Met made into a movie… I haven’t read the book yet, but a rom-com set at a Ren Faire? Love it!

Right??!! They weren’t always perfect but they were fun and uplifting! And usually had great soundtracks. π Well Met would be so different, I think, too. <3
Good point, the soundtracks were usually pretty good! I always forget about that part.
I love this twist on the freebie, Dedra. I have read 8 of these and totally agree, but Chloe Brown would definitely not be made for TV. ππ
Haha! Yes, or they’d have to do some major editing. π
