Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovely Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week a new theme is suggested for bloggers to participate in. This week’s prompt is Books On My Winter TBR!
Hello Readers! I hope you’re all well, warm, and full of the holiday spirit if you celebrate. As this goes live, I’m returning from a quick Christmas vacation. We road-tripped from Texas to Colorado with my husband’s family and we were lucky enough to get snow! It was such a lovely time away—time to rest, reflect, and reconnect. But now it’s time to catch up on my holiday TBR and blogging. 😉
Today, I’ll be sharing the books on my Winter TBR. When I took a look back at My Fall TBR, I was happy to see I read 7 out of the 10 books I had planned. I know I probably won’t get to all of the books on my Winter TBR either, but I’m hopeful! Most of them are ARCs, so I should at least get to those.
Let’s see what I have planned to read this winter!

This Time Next Year by Sophie Cousens
Synopsis:
In this warm-hearted love story for fans of One Day in December, a man and woman who were born at the same hospital on New Year’s Day meet on their thirtieth birthday and discover the many times their paths almost crossed before.
Down-to-earth baker Minnie Cooper knows two things with great certainty: that her New Year’s birthday has always been unlucky, and that it’s all because of Quinn Hamilton, a man she’s never met. Minnie and Quinn were born at the same hospital just after midnight on New Year’s Day thirty years before, and not only did he edge her out by mere minutes to win the cash prize for being the first baby born in London in 1990, but he stole the name she was meant to have, as well. With luck like that, it’s no wonder each of her birthdays has been more of a disaster than the one before.
When Minnie unexpectedly runs into Quinn at a New Year’s party on their mutual thirtieth birthday, she sees only more evidence that fortune has continued to favor him. The handsome, charming business owner truly seems to have it all–including the perfect girlfriend. But if Quinn and Minnie are from different worlds, why do they keep bumping into each other? And why is it that each frustrating interaction somehow seems to leave them both hoping for more?

I’m determined to finally get to this one around New Year’s. It would also fulfill a prompt on my Popsugar Challenge for 2022.

Then a dinosaur bone turns up in her grandparents’ backyard. The big-city academic and the hometown baker seem destined for a happily ever after.
But Alisha is scared to fall in love. And Quentin’s trying to make a name for himself in a competitive field, which gets even more complicated when the press shows up at the dig site. For love to prevail, the two may have to put old bones aside—and focus on the future.

The Last House on the Street by Diane Chamberlain
Synopsis:
From bestselling author Diane Chamberlain comes an irresistible new novel that perfectly interweaves history, mystery, and social justice.
When Kayla Carter’s husband dies in an accident while building their dream house, she knows she has to stay strong for their four-year-old daughter. But the trophy home in Shadow Ridge Estates, a new development in sleepy Round Hill, North Carolina, will always hold tragic memories. But when she is confronted by an odd, older woman telling her not to move in, she almost agrees. It’s clear this woman has some kind of connection to the area…and a connection to Kayla herself. Kayla’s elderly new neighbor, Ellie Hockley, is more welcoming, but it’s clear she, too, has secrets that stretch back almost fifty years. Is Ellie on a quest to right the wrongs of the past? And does the house at the end of the street hold the key? Told in dual time periods, The Last House on the Street is a novel of shocking prejudice and violence, forbidden love, the search for justice, and the tangled vines of two families.

I’ve read and enjoyed several books by Diane Chamberlain, but this one sounds so different from the previous historical selections I’ve read. I’m anxious to pick it up!

An Echo in the Bone (Outlander, #7) by Diana Gabaldon
Synopsis:
Readers have been waiting with bated breath for the seventh volume in bestselling author Diana Gabaldon’s epic Outlander saga — a masterpiece of historical fiction featuring Jamie and Claire, from one of the genre’s most popular and beloved authors.
Jamie Fraser, erstwhile Jacobite and reluctant rebel, knows three things about the American rebellion: the Americans will win, unlikely as that seems in 1778; being on the winning side is no guarantee of survival; and he’d rather die than face his illegitimate son — a young lieutenant in the British Army — across the barrel of a gun. Fraser’s time-travelling wife, Claire, also knows a couple of things: that the Americans will win, but that the ultimate price of victory is a mystery. What she does believe is that the price won’t include Jamie’s life or happiness — not if she has anything to say.
Claire’s grown daughter Brianna, and her husband, Roger, watch the unfolding of Brianna’s parents’ history — a past that may be sneaking up behind their own family.
Goodreads
The seventh book in the Outlander series is the next one I need to read. Now that the tv adaptation is catching up to where I’ve read, I need to kick it in gear to stay ahead. 😉 This one appeared on my fall tbr, but I didn’t get to it. Hopefully I can make it happen this winter.
6
Black Cake by Charmaine Wilkerson
Synopsis:
In this moving debut novel, two estranged siblings must set aside their differences to deal with their mother’s death and her hidden past–a journey of discovery that takes them from the Caribbean to London to California and ends with her famous black cake.
“At turns delightfully juicy and then stunningly wise, Black Cake is a winner.”–Taylor Jenkins Reid, New York Timesbestselling author of Malibu Rising
In development as a Hulu original series produced by Marissa Jo Cerar, Oprah Winfrey (Harpo Films), and Kapital Entertainment
We can’t choose what we inherit. But can we choose who we become?
In present-day California, Eleanor Bennett’s death leaves behind a puzzling inheritance for her two children, Byron and Benny: a traditional Caribbean black cake, made from a family recipe with a long history, and a voice recording. In her message, Eleanor shares a tumultuous story about a headstrong young swimmer who escapes her island home under suspicion of murder. The heartbreaking tale Eleanor unfolds, the secrets she still holds back, and the mystery of a long-lost child, challenge everything the siblings thought they knew about their lineage, and themselves.
Can Byron and Benny reclaim their once-close relationship, piece together Eleanor’s true history, and fulfill her final request to “share the black cake when the time is right”? Will their mother’s revelations bring them back together or leave them feeling more lost than ever?
Charmaine Wilkerson’s debut novel is a story of how the inheritance of betrayals, secrets, memories, and even names, can shape relationships and history. Deeply evocative and beautifully written, Black Cake is an extraordinary journey through the life of a family changed forever by the choices of its matriarch.

I was invited to read this one several months ago and the buzz just keeps growing for it! AND how cool that a Hulu adaptation is already in development by Oprah Winfrey.

Good Girl Complex by Elle Kennedy
Synopsis:
She does everything right. So what could go wrong?
Love doesn’t always wait until you’re ready.
Mackenzie “Mac” Cabot is a people pleaser. Her demanding parents. Her prep school friends. Her long-time boyfriend. It’s exhausting, really, always following the rules. Unlike most twenty-year-olds, all she really wants to do is focus on growing her internet business, but first she must get a college degree at her parents’ insistence. That means moving to the beachside town of Avalon Bay, a community made up of locals and the wealthy students of Garnet College.
Mac’s had plenty of practice suppressing her wilder impulses, but when she meets local bad boy Cooper Hartley, that ability is suddenly tested. Cooper is rough around the edges. Raw. Candid. A threat to her ordered existence. Their friendship soon becomes the realest thing in her life.
Despite his disdain for the trust-fund kids he sees coming and going from his town, Cooper soon realizes Mac isn’t just another rich clone and falls for her. Hard. But as Mac finally starts feeling accepted by Cooper and his friends, the secret he’s been keeping from her threatens the only place she’s ever felt at home.

I’ve already seen a few mixed reviews for this one. BUT I’ve never read an Elle Kennedy book, so I don’t have any preconceived expectations. I’m hoping that helps. 🙂

Meet Me in the Margins by Melissa Ferguson
Synopsis:
Savannah Cade is a low-level editor at Pennington Publishing, a prestigious publisher producing only the highest of highbrow titles. And while editing the latest edition of The Anthology of Medieval Didactic Poetry may be her day job, she has two secrets she’s hiding.
One: She’s writing a romance novel.
Two: She’s discovered the Book Nook—a secret room in the publishing house where she finds inspiration for her “lowbrow” hobby.
After leaving her manuscript behind one afternoon, she returns to the nook only to discover someone has written notes in the margins. Savannah’s first response to the criticism is defensive, but events transpire that force her to admit that she needs the help of this shadowy editor after all. As the notes take a turn for the romantic, and as Savannah’s madcap life gets more complicated than ever, she uses the process of elimination to identify her mysterious editor—only to discover that what she truly wants and what she should want just might not be the same. Melissa Ferguson’s latest—a love letter to books, readers, and romance—will leave fans laughing out loud and swooning in the same breath.

Ever since I read an excerpt of this one on Bookish First, I’ve wanted to pick it up. It was supposed to be the book included in my Book HookUp subscription box, but my box was lost in the mail. I was finally able to get a copy and I’m excited to finally finish the story.

One Night on the Island by Josie Silver
Synopsis:
From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of One Day in December . . . When a double-booking at a remote one-room cabin accidentally throws two solace seekers together, it feels like a cruel twist of fate. But what if it’s fate of a different kind?
Spending her thirtieth birthday alone is the last thing that dating columnist Cleo wanted, but she is going on a self-coupling quasi-sabbatical–at the insistence of her boss–in the name of re-energizing herself and adding a new perspective to her column. The remote Irish island she’s booked is a far cry from London, but at least it’s a chance to hunker down in a luxury cabin and indulge in some quiet, solitary self-care while she figures out her next steps in her love life and her career.
Mac is also looking forward to some time to himself. With his life in Boston deteriorating in ways he can’t bring himself to acknowledge, his soul searching has brought him to the same Irish island in search of his roots and some clarity. Unfortunately, a mix-up with the bookings means both solitude seekers have reserved the same one-bedroom hideaway on exactly the same dates.
Instantly at odds with each other, Cleo and Mac don’t know how they’re going to manage until the next weekly ferry arrives. But as the days go by, they no longer seem to mind each other’s company quite as much as they thought they would…
Written with Josie Silver’s signature warmth, charm and insights into the human heart, One Night on the Island explores the meaning of home, the joys of escape and how the things we think we want are never the things we really need.

I was a fan of One Day in December, so I’m excited to pick up the latest romance by Silver. This one will be a perfect escape on a cold, wintery day.
Do we share any books on my Winter TBR? Let me know in the comments!
Great list, Dedra! My post is scheduled to go up in a couple of hours but I have This Time Next Year on it as well! I tried reading it earlier this year but wasn’t in the right mood for it but I’m hoping it’ll suit me now! I’m also pretty excited to read Fire Keeper’s Daughter in January and I hope we both enjoy that. I didn’t realise Josie Silver was coming out with another book so definitely going to check that out as well. Happy reading 🙂
Thanks Dini! I look forward to discussing This Time Next Year and Firekeeper’s Daughter if/when we both get to them. 😉
Great list indeed. Here I was, working on clearing my TBR lists and shelves and now I’ve added most of these books! happy reading.
Haha! That’s the way it goes, right?! Especially on weeks with a TBR prompt. 😉

Such a great list of books! I really, really want to catch up on Outlander. I got half way book 4 a long time ago and then never picked it back up. I need to motivate myself. haha
Yes! Me too. I typically try to read at least one a year, but I didn’t get to one in 2021. Staying ahead of the adaptation keeps me a little more motivated. Ha!
I know! I need to at least finish book 4 this year! Haha!! I really hope I do anyways! 😂
Maybe if we both keep each other accountable. 😆😂
I need to catch up and then we can do a looooong and sloooowww buddy read of a book. I’ll be like.. hey, Dedra- have you read any of this book this month? Then you will say, yes- in fact, I read 300 pages! Then I will cringe and be like… okay, I’ll catch up. 😀 haha!
