Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovely Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week a new theme is suggested for bloggers to participate in. This week’s prompt is Books on My Summer 2023 To-Read List!
Hello Readers! We already feel like we’re deep into summer here in Texas. We have an excessive heat warning as I’m writing this. But summer doesn’t officially start until Wednesday, the 21st. Whether you’re heading into summer or winter, I hope you have a great selection of books to dive into!
Today, I’ll be sharing the books on my Summer TBR. When I took a look back at My Spring TBR, I was thrilled to see I read all 10 books I had planned! Which means the pressure is on for my Summer TBR. π I recently shared my #20BooksOfSummer23 Challenge, so you’ll see some repeats, but I did pick up another ARC and I tried to pick a few books off my Backlist Challenge, as well, since I’ve only read one book from that list so far this year. π¬ Although, I have been reaching my goal of reading 2 backlist books a month, just not the ones I picked.
Let’s see what I have planned to read this summer (in no particular order)!
1
The Summer Girl by Elle Kennedy
Synopsis:
College student Cassie Soul hasnβt spent an entire summer in Avalon Bay in years, not since her parents divorced and her mother spitefully whisked her away to Boston. Now that her grandmother is selling the boardwalk hotel thatβs been in their family for five decades, Cassie returns to the quaint beach town to spend time with family, ring in her twenty-first birthdayβ¦ and maybe find herself a summer fling.
On her first night in town, she finds the perfect candidate: Tate Bartlett, Avalon Bayβs fun-loving golden boy.
Tate, sailing instructor and lovable player, is no stranger to flings. In fact, heβs always down for a good time. But the moment he meets Cassie, he knows sheβs not the girl you play games with. Cassie is gorgeous, hilarious, and, frankly, the coolest person heβs ever met. The last thing he wants to do is risk breaking her heart, and so he reluctantly puts her in the friend-zoneβ¦ only to realize he made a huge mistake. Soon, his attraction to Cassie becomes impossible to ignore. He wants that fling now. Big-time.
And maybe even something more.
As Cassie and Tate walk the line between friends and lovers, theyβre about to discover that their situation is the least complicated part of this equation. Because Avalon Bay is full of secretsβand their relationship might not survive when those secrets come to light.
Elle Kennedy’s next spicy and emotional romance in the blockbuster Avalon Bay series.
Goodreads
Expected July 18, 2023
Very excited to get to the third book in the Avalon Bay series. The first book was my introduction to Elle Kennedy, and I fell hard for it. It’s always fun to return to characters and settings I know. This will also fulfill the prompt on My Popsugar Challenge: A book with “Girl” in the title.
2
The Love Proposal by Camilla Isley
Synopsis:
The moment you stop looking, thatβs when Prince Charming will come knocking on your door!
Summer Knowles does not want a boyfriend. Relationships have caused enough problems in her life. As bridesmaid at her sisterβs wedding, sheβs going to avoid all things romantic β especially the brawny, hipster best-man who has commitment-phobe written all over him!
When Archie Hill meets Summer, he immediately thinks bridesmaid-and-best-man-with-benefits! They have one week together and may as well make the most of it. But what if one week just isnβt enoughβ¦
As wedding fever takes hold, can a sworn-off-men bridesmaid and a die-hard bachelor learn a thing or two about happy-ever-after?
A friends-with-benefits, wedding date rom-com, perfect for fans of Ali Hazelwood!
Please note that this title was originally published as You May Kiss the Bridesmaid.
Goodreads
Expected July 22, 2023
Isley, an indie author I like to read often, has signed with Boldwood Books and several of her backlist books are being re-released with edits and new covers. This is another one of hers I haven’t read yet, so I decided to request the ARC. I enjoy how her characters overlap throughout some of her books, but can still be read as standalones.
3
The Roommate Pact by Allison Ashley
Synopsis:
All of the fun, none of the heartacheβ¦as long as they stick to the agreement.
The proposition is simple: if ER nurse Claire Harper and her roommate, firefighter Graham Scott, are still single by the time theyβre forty, theyβll take the proverbial plunge togetherβ¦as friends with benefits. Maybe itβs the wine, but in the moment, Claire figures the pact is a safe-enough deal, considering she hasnβt had much luck in love and heβs in no rush to settle down. Like, at all. Besides, thereβs no way she could ever really fall for Graham and his thrill-seeking ways. Not after what happened to her fatherβ¦
Just as things begin to heat up way before the proposed deadline, Grahamβs injured in a serious rock-climbing accidentβand he needs Claireβs help to heal. Sheβll do whatever it takes to nurse him back to healthβ¦even if it means moving into Grahamβs bed and putting up with his little dog who hates her. But with this no-strings arrangement taking a complicated turn, keeping βfor nowβ from turning into βforeverβ isnβt as easy as theyβd planned.

I was invited to read this romance and the early reviews are glowing, so I jumped at it. It sounds super cute!
4

Somewhere Close to Happy by Lia Louis
Synopsis:
Lizzie has just received a letter from her first love, Roman. The thing is, Roman went missing 12 years ago.
A laugh-out-loud funny yet heart-breaking novel about first love and second chances, with a satisfying mystery at its heart.
Lizzie James is happy. She has a steady office job (with a steady stream of tray bakes), has had the same best friend since secondary school, and she sees her family every Thursday night for take-away and TV. Granted, some members of her family she’d rather not see, and they definitely don’t want to see her after what happened back then… but on the whole she’s happy. Or somewhere close to it, anyway.
Until a letter arrives one day from her best friend, Roman. A letter dated 12 years ago, the exact day he went missing.
It brings all her painful memories flooding back: the new school she had to go to when she was ill, losing her beloved granddad, Hubble, and then losing her first love. As Lizzie uncovers the secrets of the letter, she starts to discover what really happened the year her life fell apart – and all avenues lead back to Roman.
Who sent her the letter, and what happened to Roman?
Perfect for fans of Cecelia Ahern, Jojo Moyes, Giovanna Fletcher and Kate Eberlen’s Miss You. This is a novel you won’t soon forget.

Goodreads
The only published book by O’Leary that I haven’t read, I’m excited to pick this one up!
Do we share any books on my Summer TBR? Let me know in the comments!
Yeah! We will both be reading The Summer Girl. Hope it’s a solid addition to the series (the last one was really good for me). I hope to read the Roommate Pact. Ashley last book was soooooooo good. I love O’Leary and have enjoyed McFarlane in the past as well. I am jealous you have that Lia Louis books (adore her!) Looks like a great summer TBR!
I’m so looking forward to The Summer Girl. I just love stepping into a world I already know. I haven’t read anything by Ashley or McFarlane, so it makes me very happy to hear you enjoyed their books! It will be an amazing summer if I can get to all of these. π
I loved that Mhairi McFarlane book but then I love all her books. Hope you enjoy it too. Happy summer reading!
I can’t believe I still haven’t read one by her—despite owning several. Hopefully it finally happens!
Good luck with all of that heat! Toronto has had a pretty cool and mild June so far. I keep wondering when weβre going to get a heat wave, but I also wouldnβt mind a milder summer if thatβs what happens. π
Here is my Top Ten Tuesday post.
A mild summer sounds wonderful! I hope you get it! The humidity is off the charts here. More than usual. It’s a weird summer so far, weather-wise.
The Reunion sounds good.
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.
Yes! Fingers crossed it’s as good as it sounds. π
Somewhere close to happy immediately caught my attention. Of course the Beth O’Leary as well. Love her books!
Good luck with you summer challenge! I hope you will get to reading them all like your spring list!
Elza Reads
I’m such a fan of O’Leary, too. Hopefully I can cross this last one off my list. π
The Reunion is on my TBR too.
Yay!! I hope we both enjoy it!
I loved The Heart Principle! It’s my favorite Helen Hoang book. And both The Roommate Pact and The Summer Girl look like very fun reads. Happy reading this summer! π
Oh wow! That makes me happy to hear you loved The Heart Principle. Mostly I hear the opposite. I’m hoping I’ll be on the side of loving it, too!
I enjoyed Helen Hoang’s previous two books but never picked up The Heart Principle. Based on reviews, I decided to skip that one. Not because of bad reviews (reviews were good), but because it seemed the story took a much different turn that I expected and was not the story for Quan that I’d been hoping for. I hope you’ll enjoy all of these!
I hear that a lot. I’m gonna give it a try since I already own a copy. It’s been so long since I read the previous two books, maybe I won’t have as high of expectations. Ha!
I want to read The Roommate Pact, too! I hope you love all of these.
It sounds super cute, but I’ve never read anything by the author. It seems like her other books have been well-received, so I’m excited!
Honestly I always consider summer really starting at the beginning of June! It’s definitely hot enough for it here in the UK at the moment, we’ve been having a bit of a heatwave over the past couple of weeks and honestly I’m very ready to not feel constantly hot and sticky. I hope you enjoy all of these books π
My TTT: https://jjbookblog.wordpress.com/2023/06/20/top-ten-tuesday-425/
I agree! We always thought of summer starting as soon as school was out in late May. π My oldest daughter is living in Paris right now and she said it’s so hot. And she’s used to Texas heat. I hope you get a break in the heat soon!
Sadly in the UK, school doesn’t let out till the beginning of July so by all definitions of the word, summer has definitely started by now. Thankfully today has been a lot cooler!
Oh wow! When do ya’ll start back. We typically start back in late August.
We start back early September!
I enjoyed The Switch, it was a fun read. It looks like you’re hoping to read some great books in the coming months. I hope you enjoy them all when you can read them.

Fingers crossed I can get to most of these! Happy summer reading!
I’m impressed that you read all the books on your Spring TBR. Well done! I love making these lists, but I never really follow them. It’s just fun to THINK about what I might read, even if I never actually do it. Ha ha. Enjoy your summer reading!
Happy TTT!

Yes! I love making lists. I’m a planner who wishes she were more of a mood reader. π But it is rare for me to cross off every book on my TBR. Mayyyybe I can make it happen this summer, too. Ha!
I LOVED The Switch!!!! If interested (no pressure AT ALL) this is the link to my review: https://hopewellslibraryoflife.wordpress.com/2020/12/07/review-the-switch-by-beth-oleary/
Yay!! Thank you!
I hadn’t heard of it before this, but Somewhere Close to Happy sounds like one I need to read!
I’ve adored her other novels, and Somewhere Close to Happy is her debut. I’m excited to give it a try!
I hope you enjoy them all! The covers are very summery. π
Thank you! <3
That’s awesome that you read all ten from your Spring TBR, Dedra. I only read 6 of mine. I am not doing a Summer list as I already have 20 Books of Summer on the go, as well as my Christmas in July. I like the looks of your list. I have four of these on my TBR and have already read two of them. I hope you enjoy them all.
I have so many TBRs going right now too! It gets confusing, doesn’t it?! π It sounds like we both have a great summer of reading ahead, though!
