Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovely Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week a new theme is suggested for bloggers to participate in. This week’s prompt is Books With Your Favorite Trope/Theme (Submitted by Raincheckandread.com and Sara Beth @ Life, Love, Writing).
Hello Readers! I’ve talked A LOT recently about my favorite books, and I felt like I would be repeating myself here. So I decided to talk about books with my favorite tropes on my to-be-read list. It’s never hard to find a new book to talk about when my tbr grows every day. π
I love tropes, and there are only a few that I’m not typically a huge fan of (but would still read) like the Royalty, Celebrity, and Billionaire tropes. A perfect example of this is The Bodyguard by Katherine Center (available this summer), which is about a celebrity and ended up being my favorite book of last year. So, I try not to rule anything out.
One of my favorite posts ever on the blog was about tropes. It’s also one of the posts I worked the hardest on, so it’s always a fun one to revisit. I matched songs with books based on my favorite tropes in My Book Soundtrack ~ Love Song Edition: Tropes. I decided to use the same (12) tropes I chose for that post, with the exception of #6 and #11, which I substituted with two of my newest favorite tropes.
Let’s see what I picked!
(Link to Goodreads synopsis through book title.)
- Fake Relationships – This May End Badly by Samantha Markum – One of my next reads, this fake-dating YA romance set at a boarding school will be available next month.
- Enemies to Lovers – Love On the Brain by Ali Hazelwood – Okay, so technically I still haven’t read anything by Hazelwood, but I’m trusting the hype.
- Second Chance Romance – The Kingmaker (All the King’s Men, #1) by Kennedy Ryan – I’ve only read one other book by Ryan, but this one gets recommended a lot, despite the fact it appears to have one heck of a cliffhanger.
- Friends to Lovers – Maybe Someday (Maybe, #1) by Colleen Hoover – I love romances about music, and this one has been on my tbr for years.
- The Triangle – Dream On by Angie Hockman – I know most readers detest this trope, but I don’t have a problem with it when it’s done well. This did-I-dream-you-into-life romance sounds absolutely charming and different.
- Forced Proximity – Stirring Up Love (Taste of Love, #2) by Chandra Blumberg – I enjoyed the first book in this romance series set around food, and the follow up sounds yummy!
- Opposites Attract – Read Between the Lines (Ms. Right, #1) by Rachel Lacey – An opposites attract, enemies to lovers bookish romance?! Yes, please!
- Road Trip Romance – A Thousand Miles by Bridget Morrisssey – One of my favorite tropes, I couldn’t resist this sweet-sounding road trip romance between ex-friends.
- Workplace Romance – Tweet Cute by Emma Lord – So many of you love this romance about two warring family-owned businesses, and it’s waiting on my shelf to be read!
- Slow Burn Romance – All Rhodes Lead Here by Mariana Zapata – I think any of Zapata’s books could probably go here (and many other tropes, as well), but one of her most recent books set in a small town in the mountains sounds like the perfect romance to immerse myself in.
- Grumpy/Sunshine – The Highland Fling by Meghan Quinn – I’m a sucker for romances set in Scotland, and this one sounds adorable.
- Secret Identity – Well Played (Well Met, #2) by Jen DeLuca – I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the first book in this series set at a Renaissance Faire, so the follow up is a must read!
Have you read any of these? Let me know in the comments!
Excellent post – so many great tropes! And thanks for the recommendations.
Thank you! Always happy to grow other tbrs. π
Great post! I enjoy all those tripes! I loved Maybe Someday and Tweet Cute was fun and sweet! I am so excited for the Hazelwood novella! Happy Tuesday! π
I was hoping to get approved for Hazelwood’s, but no such luck. I’ll have to wait for it. π
Same! I was declined. Jerks. haha.

Awesome post Dedra. I love that you pair your books with music. I love most of those tropes as well and need to read some of these.
As long as I can remember, I’ve loved to put a soundtrack to everything. Ha!
It’s a talent Dedra.

Wonderful post, Dedra. I could easily have this same list on my blog as I enjoy these tropes too. But, you have suggested some great books that I haven’t read yet and I will have to check out soon. Thank you.
Thank you! Happy to add to your tbr. π
Oooh, yeah, I always forget to include slow burn romances on my list of favorite tropes, but it really is one of my absolute favorites. Great list!

There’s nothing like a good slow burn romance! Especially when I’m in a reading slump. π
It is a really good cure for a reading slump!
Yes!!
I only read four of these, but all were great. I honestly cannot think of a trope I hate. For me, it’s all about the execution. I thought the virgin romance was one I hated, but I have read some I really liked. Nothings off the table with me.
I feel the same way! If it’s done well, any trope can work. π
The Kingmaker was excellent, but yes, quite the cliffhanger! I loved Maybe Someday. It’s still one of my favorites from Hoover.
Hopefully I can get to both of these sooner rather than later. AND allow time to pick up the book after The Kingmaker. π
