Top Ten Tuesday: Books Set in Fall or Autumn

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovely Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week a new theme is suggested for bloggers to participate in. This week’s prompt is Characters I’d Love An Update On (Where are they now that the book is over?), but as I started working on it, I realized most of my choices were very similar to my recent post Minor Characters Who Deserve More Love. So I decided to do something else!

Hello Readers! We’re almost to the end of November and you know what that means??!! No, silly, not Christmas. The release of the Popsugar Reading Challenge list for 2022!! We never know exactly when it will be released so I wake up every day and check. I can’t wait to start planning my reading for next year. πŸ˜ƒ

Today I decided to do something different and share books set in fall or autumn. I know it feels like we’re coming to the end of fall, but technically we still have almost a month left. I’ll be sharing five books I’ve read and enjoyed and five from my tbr! I can’t guarantee that the ones on my tbr are actually set in fall, but I’ve done my best to find out without getting spoiled. Feel free to let me know in the comments if I’ve chosen a book that’s not set in the fall. OR to suggest any others you know of that are.

Let’s fall into my choices! πŸ˜†

Read and Enjoyed

  1. Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman – I recently read this bestseller from the 1990s about two sisters with magical tendencies, and much of the story is set in the fall. Really, the entire series is perfect for fall reading.
  2. Maple Sugar Crush (An Autumnboro Sweet Romance, #2) by Beth Labonte – I was recently able to pick this one up, and I enjoyed this sweet autumnal romance. It’s perfect paired with your favorite pumpkin spiced beverage! It even has a touch of Christmas, making this one good for this time of year. It’s actually the second book in the series, but each one can be read as a standalone. There are just some cross-over characters.
  3. How Sweet It Is by Dylan Newton – This romance is set around Halloween and if you enjoy seasonal romances, this one has plenty of pumpkin-spice and fall-themed events.
  4. The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater – The Scorpio Races occur at the start of every November, so this YA fantasy is a perfect read for the cooler months. I recently reread it for the first time in almost ten years, and I’d forgotten just how beautifully written it is.
  5. Snowflakes at the Little Christmas Tree Farm by Jaimie Admans – If you like a mix of fall and Christmas, this is the perfect romance for you! Most of this one actually occurs leading up to the holidays and there’s a very handsome pumpkin farmer, as well. πŸ™‚

From my TBR

  1. Pumpkin Everything (An Autumnboro Sweet Romance, #1) by Beth Labonte – Now that I’ve read the second book in this standalone series, I’d like to read the first book, as well. Maybe next fall?
  2. Empire Falls by Richard Russo – I’ve had this award-winning novel on my tbr and bookshelf for a few years.
  3. Autumn (Seasonal, #1) by Ali Smith – I’ve only heard good things about Smith’s Seasonal series. It starts with this one.
  4. You Deserve Each Other by Sarah Hogle – I had no idea this was set in the fall, until it showed up in my search results. I already own a copy. I’m hoping I can get to it over the next few weeks!
  5. The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield – Another award-winning novel waiting on my bookshelf, I’ve heard this mystery is especially good for book lovers.

Do you like seasonal reads? Let me know in the comments!

Happy Wandering!

    1. Haha! I’m glad I’m not the only one. Hopefully they’ll release it on Dec. 1st like last year. I’m getting very anxious. πŸ˜‰

It’s one of my favorite times of the year, as well. Especially here in Texas–we never know what kind of weather we’ll wake up to!

        1. Yes! I know last year when it released on Dec. 1st, that was later than usual. The two years before it had released mid to late November. Now I just hope it shows up on the 1st and not later! Ha!

  1. Oh the Seasonal Quartet is exceptional! And Autumn for me was possibly the best, if you can choose between them! They are maybe more prose poetry than anything else and so steeped in both ‘high’ and ‘popular’ culture (can we not just say culture?!) I hope you enjoy them!

This is my TTT this week: books with particularly open and inviting endings which invite you to wonder where they are now.
