Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovely Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week a new theme is suggested for bloggers to participate in. This week’s prompt is Books I Love That Were Written Over Ten Years Ago.
Hello Readers! I hope this week’s TTT finds you well. I can’t believe we’re already halfway through August. The summer may be winding down, but it’s still hot hot hot here in Texas. We did have a wonderful day of thunderstorms last week that finally broke our 67 day streak with no rain! Woohoo!
Today we’re looking at books we loved that were written over ten years ago. So often we get caught up in the current hype of new books and forget about those older books we’ve read and enjoyed. I’ve tried to include books I maybe haven’t mentioned as much on the blog, but it was a challenge. I’ve also included a one-word review for each one. These are all books I thoroughly enjoyed!
Let’s see what I found (in no particular order)!
(Link to Goodreads synopsis through book title.)
- Rules of Civility by Amor Towles (2011) – Captivating
- The Blue Castle by L. M. Montgomery (1926) – Delightful
- The Silver Linings Playbook by Matthew Quick (2008) – Irresistible
- The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller (2011) – Intimate
- Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman (1995) – Whimsical
- The Soldier’s Wife by Margaret Leroy (2011) – Atmospheric
- I’ve Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella (2011) – Fun
- The Dovekeepers by Alice Hoffman (2011) – Superb
- The Gods of Gotham by Lyndsay Faye (2012) – Unputdownable
- The Death of Bees by Lisa O’Donnell (2012) – Powerful
Did I include any of your favorites? Let me know in the comments!
Fun is a word I associate with all Kinsella’s books. Fun and warm.
Yes! I’ve enjoyed every one of her books I’ve read.
Great list and one-word reviews, Dedra! It is definitely easy to get caught up in all the new book hype and forget all the ‘oldies but goodies’ that are still on my TBR. I had SoA on my list today as well. I can’t believe it was published so long ago because it actually feels so recent! π
SoA was so very good. And it does feel like a more recent book. I still need to read Circe!
Hooray for the rain! Kinsella’s books are always good for something light and fun.
Yes! I don’t know if I’ve ever enjoyed a day of rain more. π I’ve enjoyed every Kinsella book I’ve read, but there’s so many I still need to get to!
Practical Magic is a great choice and I have a Sophie Kinsella book on my list too.
I always enjoy a Kinsella book, but there’s so many more of hers I need to get to!
I also tried to include books that I haven’t mentioned much on the blog to this point. It’s hard to believe that some of them are older than ten years oldβthough I guess Practical Magic shouldn’t be any surprise to me, since I read it long enough ago that I don’t remember anything about it!

I was surprised by how old some of these were, too! I only read Practical Magic for the first time last year, but I can’t believe it took me so long. It’s a fun one!
I have only read Practical Magic and the Sophie Kinsella book. I will have to check out some of the others though.
Oh, I hope you find a few to add to your tbr!
Oh, The Blue Castle!!! One of my all-time favs. π Great list.
I finally read it last year for the first time, and I can’t believe it took me so long to pick up!
Great list, and I love your one word reviews of the books! The Song of Achilles is one of my favorite reads – it made my list today too.
Yay for The Song of Achilles! I was blown away by that book. But I still need to read Circe.
Me too. π
Yay, so glad that you got some rain. We really need some. We’ve had some sprinkles here and there but not a good drenching. Anyways, Song of Achilles has been on soo many lists, rightfully so! Great list!
The rain was so very nice. I hope you get some soon! I think we’re supposed to get more tonight and tomorrow, but right now it looks bright and sunny outside. ππ€·ββοΈ Song of Achilles deserves all the love!
We got rain last night and today! It’s been nice between the periods when the sun comes out and turns it into a misty humid hell. haha.
