Top Ten Tuesday: Bookish Superpowers I Wish I Had

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovely Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week a new theme is suggested for bloggers to participate in. This week’s prompt is a Bookish Superpowers I Wish I Had (e.g. never accidentally buying the same book twice, every book I buy would be automatically signed/personally dedicated by the author, the ability to read faster, etc.) (Submitted by Cathy @WhatCathyReadNext)

Hello Readers! A little life update: I apologize for my lack of blog hopping. I mentioned before that I’d be traveling with my husband for work since we snagged a free airline companion pass. When we found out he had to work in New York on Valentine’s, we planned a trip around it. It snowed the morning before we arrived, and we were fully expecting it to delay our flight, but it didn’t! We forget here in Texas that other states know how to handle bad weather. πŸ˜ƒ We finally got to attend Hamilton on Broadway and that was the perfect way to celebrate. (Pic below is the snow in Central Park after it had been enjoyed all day.)

It’s also my birthday month, and I had a lovely day with my hubby and kids on Sunday. Now it’s back to the real world for a while, which is always hard. BUT I’m looking forward to visiting all of your blogs soon to see what y’all have been up to. ❀️

I had a lot of fun with this week’s prompt. Let’s see what bookish superpowers I wish I had!

1

To read faster

Probably the bookish power I wish I had the most is the ability to read faster and still enjoy what I’m reading. I’m a slower reader, and while I can read faster, I absorb a lot less when I try.

2

To read a favorite book like it’s the first time again

Whenever I close a book that was a perfect five-star read for me or one that just absolutely consumed me, I immediately wish I could forget everything and read it like it was the first time again. I do enjoy rereading, but it’s never the same.

3

To recommend the perfect book to anyone

Photo byΒ Bree AnneΒ onΒ Unsplash

I’m always nervous when I get asked to recommend a book. Especially if it’s by someone who isn’t much of a reader but would like to start. If I recommend the wrong thing, will I be responsible for them never picking up another book again?? πŸ˜¬πŸ˜ƒ

4

To easily recall previous books in a series

Photo byΒ Sarah TonaΒ onΒ Unsplash

Before I started blogging, I tried to make it a habit to wait until an entire series was out before I started reading so I could just roll through. But of course there were those books I absolutely couldn’t wait for. But now that I read more ARCs, 1) I don’t have time to read an entire series and 2) if I’m reading a book in a series as an ARC, I need to review it asap. So that means sometimes YEARS will go by before I pick up the next book in a series. And my memory is not the best when it comes to books.

5

To recite my favorite lines on command

Speaking of my memory, it’s not the best at remembering quotes or passages of books. But I’m always envious of those people who can rattle them off word for word.

6

To restore a book to new condition

I have some very old books I’ve been given or have collected and I keep them packed away because of their condition. Which makes me sad sometimes.

7

To become invisible when I read

Photo byΒ Sophie ElvisΒ onΒ Unsplash

Okay, I wouldn’t want to become invisible every time I pick up a book, but I’d love to have the ability to make myself invisible in those moments when a book is just so very good and people won’t leave me alone! πŸ˜‚

8

To freeze time

Photo byΒ Niklas RhΓΆseΒ onΒ Unsplash

This one is pretty similar to the previous superpower, but even better. If I could stop time to read, I wouldn’t miss anything else going on. Or I wouldn’t have to make a choice between reading and something else.

9

To make every book read cinematically

Many readers have the ability to picture the lengthy descriptions in books as they read, but I’m not usually one of them. Many times I don’t even know what a character looks like because I didn’t catch those details. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

10

To read anywhere

It seemed appropriate to include a superhero in my bookish superpowers post! I wish I could read ANYWHERE, no matter the mental or physical distractions. πŸ¦Έβ€β™€οΈ

What bookish superpower do you wish you had? Let me know in the comments!

Happy Wandering!

  1. Looks like it was a fun Valentine’s day and Happy belated Birthday! 😍 These are great choices for superpowers and I had a few similar ones on my TBR. I love the idea of #3 though. I struggle with recommending books a lot so this would be a super handy power! πŸ˜‚

  2. Oooh, Hamilton on Broadway sounds like a great birthday trip!

I’m with you on #3 and #9. I know I push my favorite books at people a lot, but I wish I had a better idea in advance if they would actually like those books. And I also wish I was better at visualizing books! I’ve seen that one around a bit today.

Here’s my TTT for the week: https://bookwyrmknits.com/2024/02/20/top-ten-tuesday-bookish-superpowers-i-wish-i-had/

    1. Yes! I’m a nervous wreck when people ask me for book recommendations. πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ And I often find myself going back in books looking for the descriptions I didn’t pay attention to. Ha!

  3. Glad to hear the snow didn’t ruin your trip. It came and went, in all honesty – both storms which is fine by me. Become invisible when you read is a good one. I can imagine people with small children really needing that one

    1. Yes! It was such a quick storm. We were nervous for the week before watching the forecast. πŸ˜ƒ

I can remember wishing to be invisible for just five minutes when my kiddos were little. Ha!
