Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovely Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week a new theme is suggested for bloggers to participate in. This week’s prompt is a Bookish Superpowers I Wish I Had (e.g. never accidentally buying the same book twice, every book I buy would be automatically signed/personally dedicated by the author, the ability to read faster, etc.) (Submitted by Cathy @WhatCathyReadNext)
Hello Readers! A little life update: I apologize for my lack of blog hopping. I mentioned before that I’d be traveling with my husband for work since we snagged a free airline companion pass. When we found out he had to work in New York on Valentine’s, we planned a trip around it. It snowed the morning before we arrived, and we were fully expecting it to delay our flight, but it didn’t! We forget here in Texas that other states know how to handle bad weather. π We finally got to attend Hamilton on Broadway and that was the perfect way to celebrate. (Pic below is the snow in Central Park after it had been enjoyed all day.)
It’s also my birthday month, and I had a lovely day with my hubby and kids on Sunday. Now it’s back to the real world for a while, which is always hard. BUT I’m looking forward to visiting all of your blogs soon to see what y’all have been up to. β€οΈ
I had a lot of fun with this week’s prompt. Let’s see what bookish superpowers I wish I had!
1
To read faster
Photo byΒ Ionela MatΒ onΒ Unsplash
Probably the bookish power I wish I had the most is the ability to read faster and still enjoy what I’m reading. I’m a slower reader, and while I can read faster, I absorb a lot less when I try.
2
To read a favorite book like it’s the first time again
Photo byΒ Elaine HowlinΒ onΒ Unsplash
Whenever I close a book that was a perfect five-star read for me or one that just absolutely consumed me, I immediately wish I could forget everything and read it like it was the first time again. I do enjoy rereading, but it’s never the same.
3
To recommend the perfect book to anyone
Photo byΒ Bree AnneΒ onΒ Unsplash
I’m always nervous when I get asked to recommend a book. Especially if it’s by someone who isn’t much of a reader but would like to start. If I recommend the wrong thing, will I be responsible for them never picking up another book again?? π¬π
4
To easily recall previous books in a series
Photo byΒ Sarah TonaΒ onΒ Unsplash
Before I started blogging, I tried to make it a habit to wait until an entire series was out before I started reading so I could just roll through. But of course there were those books I absolutely couldn’t wait for. But now that I read more ARCs, 1) I don’t have time to read an entire series and 2) if I’m reading a book in a series as an ARC, I need to review it asap. So that means sometimes YEARS will go by before I pick up the next book in a series. And my memory is not the best when it comes to books.
5
To recite my favorite lines on command
Photo byΒ Mona EendraΒ onΒ Unsplash
Speaking of my memory, it’s not the best at remembering quotes or passages of books. But I’m always envious of those people who can rattle them off word for word.
6
To restore a book to new condition

I have some very old books I’ve been given or have collected and I keep them packed away because of their condition. Which makes me sad sometimes.
7
To become invisible when I read
Photo byΒ Sophie ElvisΒ onΒ Unsplash
Okay, I wouldn’t want to become invisible every time I pick up a book, but I’d love to have the ability to make myself invisible in those moments when a book is just so very good and people won’t leave me alone! π
8
To freeze time

This one is pretty similar to the previous superpower, but even better. If I could stop time to read, I wouldn’t miss anything else going on. Or I wouldn’t have to make a choice between reading and something else.
9
To make every book read cinematically
Photo byΒ Lacie SlezakΒ onΒ Unsplash
Many readers have the ability to picture the lengthy descriptions in books as they read, but I’m not usually one of them. Many times I don’t even know what a character looks like because I didn’t catch those details. π€·ββοΈ
10
To read anywhere

It seemed appropriate to include a superhero in my bookish superpowers post! I wish I could read ANYWHERE, no matter the mental or physical distractions. π¦ΈββοΈ
What bookish superpower do you wish you had? Let me know in the comments!
To become invisible when reading is a funny one! And I totally agreee, haha!

It would a game-changer! Ha!
Reading faster has been a popular pick. Enjoy your trip!
Here is my Top Ten Tuesday post.
It’s nice to know I’m not the only slow reader. π
Perfect choices!
Thank you!! <3
Looks like it was a fun Valentine’s day and Happy belated Birthday! π These are great choices for superpowers and I had a few similar ones on my TBR. I love the idea of #3 though. I struggle with recommending books a lot so this would be a super handy power! π
Thank you Dini! <3 Yes, I'm always so nervous when people ask me for recommendations!
Happy birthday! I’m glad you had a good Valentine’s trip. Remembering previous books in a series is my dream. I forget EVERYTHING!
Thank you!! <3
Yessss! I'm always googling, but then scared I'll get spoiled on what I haven't read yet.
I’ve heard Hamilton on Broadway is an experience. I’m glad you got to go! What a fun trip!
I wouldn’t mind any of these superpowers myself.
Yes, it was! Although I spent much of the show leaning from side to side trying to see around the person in front of me. #shortpeopleproblems π
If I could read anywhere, I’d be unstoppable
Yesssss! Same!
Oooh, Hamilton on Broadway sounds like a great birthday trip!
I’m with you on #3 and #9. I know I push my favorite books at people a lot, but I wish I had a better idea in advance if they would actually like those books. And I also wish I was better at visualizing books! I’ve seen that one around a bit today.
Here’s my TTT for the week: https://bookwyrmknits.com/2024/02/20/top-ten-tuesday-bookish-superpowers-i-wish-i-had/
Yes! I’m a nervous wreck when people ask me for book recommendations. π€¦ββοΈ And I often find myself going back in books looking for the descriptions I didn’t pay attention to. Ha!
Becoming invisible when reading! That’s a great one! We have a couple in common as well.
Yay!! This was a fun prompt.
It sounds like you had a lovely trip! I agree; I would love to be able to restore books. I have a few in my collection that have seen better days. I don’t want them to be 100% perfect, but I would love to be able to read them without fear of them falling apart.

Yes! That’s it. I still want them to look vintage, but be readable or displayable.
These are ALL so good! I want to change mine to all of yours. ;D
(And Happy Birthday this month. )
Haha! I had fun with this one. I bet yours are great too!
Thank you! <3
Glad to hear the snow didn’t ruin your trip. It came and went, in all honesty – both storms which is fine by me. Become invisible when you read is a good one. I can imagine people with small children really needing that one
Yes! It was such a quick storm. We were nervous for the week before watching the forecast. π
I can remember wishing to be invisible for just five minutes when my kiddos were little. Ha!
