Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovely Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week a new theme is suggested for bloggers to participate in. This week’s prompt is Books I Meant to Read in 2023 but Didnβt Get To.
Hello Readers! It’s been a hot minute since I did a TTT—which has been weird after four years of not missing a week… but also strangely nice. π I hope everyone is well. <3
This was an easy week to return since I have way too many backlist books I’d hoped to read in 2023 but didn’t get to. I even have a bookmark I use to keep track (from Etsy seller The Square Shop), which is pictured below. It’s filled in on the front and back, but I didn’t even need to flip it to get to my top ten. π€¦ββοΈ Most of these choices have already made a reappearance on My 2024 Popsugar Reading Challenge post, so here’s hoping I get to pick them up soon.
Let’s take a look at the backlist books I didn’t get to in 2023!
(Link to Goodreads synopsis through book title.)
- The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah – This poor book has appeared on soooo many of my tbr lists. Maybe 2024 is finally the year!
- My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante – I fully intended to read this one last year so I could watch the adaptation. My daughter has read it and enjoyed it, as well.
- Circe by Madeline Miller – I thought Miller’s previous book The Song of Achilles was breathtaking, so I’ve been wanting to read this one ever since.
- A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman – I’m a fan of Backman’s but I still haven’t read one of his most popular books.
- A Torch Against the Night by Sabaa Tahir – The second book in the Ember series, I’m afraid I’m going to forget everything that happened in the first book if I don’t pick this one up very soon.
- It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover – This one has been waiting on my bookshelf for a long time. I mostly want to read it now just to see what all the fuss is about.
- Somewhere Close to Happy by Lia Louis – I’ve adored everything Louis has written, so I’m eager to read one of her first books, which I really wanted to make happen last year.
- The Switch by Beth O’Leary – Same goes with O’Leary. I’ve read every other book she’s written, except this one.
- Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid – When I picked up a copy of this book, it was all the rage. But I think the few mixed reviews I’ve seen have made me more hesitant to pick it up.
- Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman – I feel fairly certain that once I finally read this one, I’ll be saying why didn’t I read it sooner??
Have you read any of these yet? Let me know in the comments!
The Nightingale and Ove are two that I think lived up to the hype. I hope this is the year.
Gosh, I need to finally pick these two up!
Love the reading list bookmark – such a good idea! I loved The Switch, one of my favourite books of all time. I also really enjoyed Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine. I read Such a Fun Age last year and I heard very mixed reviews, but overall I’m glad I read it. Hope you enjoy these books when you get to reading them x
I adore O’Leary’s books, so I feel very certain I’ll enjoy The Switch. I just need to make it happen! It’s good to hear that you’re glad you picked up Such a Fun Age. It *sounds* like one I’d like, too. π
I love that bookmark!
It’s a fun way to keep track of my backlist books!
That is a very cool bookmark! I love the idea. While I haven’t read any of the books on your list, Elinor Oliphant is one that I’ve been thinking I should read for a while now. Will 2024 be the year? Maybe…
Here’s my TTT this week. Happy reading!
Hopefully we can both pick up Eleanor Oliphant this year! π€π
A Man Called Ove is excellent! I hope you enjoy it!
I need to make it happen soon!
I loved The Switch, Nightingale, Ove, and thought Eleanor Oliphant was good. I hope you enjoy them whenever you get around to them.
Love to hear that! I’m getting much better about picking up my backlist books, so hopefully I’ll get to these this year.
I liked The Nightingale, but it did take me a bit to get into. It was well worth the read. I also liked It Ends With Us. It’s an impactful story. I think it gets a lot of flack for several reasons. I think people just need to realize it’s not a romance but a love story.
I think that’s why I haven’t picked up The Nightingale yet. It sounds emotional. So many different opinions about It Ends With Us! Now I’m just dying of curiosity. Ha!
I still need to read A Man Called Ove as well. Hope we both like it.
Here is my Top Ten Tuesday post.
Happy to hear I’m not the only one! π Fingers crossed we can both get to it soon.
First I love the Reading List Book Mark! I need one!
Second, I knocked Circe off of my TBR last year and I was so happy I did! Hopefully you can knock it off yours this year.
Sometimes it’s the simple things, right?! Just having the bookmark encourages me to pick up more books off my backlist. π Gosh, I know Circe will wow me. I just need to make it happen!
A Man Called Ove is amazing!! One of my favorite books of all time. I hope you get to it and you enjoy it!
I hear that so much! I really need to pick it up already. π
The Nightingale and It Ends With Us are two all time faves of mine. Hope you will love them too!
Yay!! Happy to hear that.
Circe! I nevr did get to that…
Hopefully we can both get to it soon! I hear it’s amazing.
A Torch Against the Night is soooo good!!!
Oh yay!! I loved the first book.
I read and loved Ove as an ARC, long before the hype. I knew right away that Backman would go far, and I was right. I’ve read everything he’s had available in English ever since.
He’s soooo good! I’ve read most of his other books, too. So I need to make Ove happen. π
I have read four of these and enjoyed The Nightingale, Circe, A Man Called Ove and It Ends With Us. I actually brought Eleanor Oliphant with me to Florida to finally read. I hope you finally get time to read and enjoy all of these books, Dedra.
Yay!! I’m excited to hear what you think of Eleanor, Carla. Enjoy your trip!
THE NIGHTINGALE and A MAN CALLED OVE are two of my favorite books ever! I hope you love them and all these others when you get to them.
Happy TTT (on a Thursday)!
Susan
