Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovely Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week a new theme is suggested for bloggers to participate in. This week’s prompt is Favorite Audiobook Narrators (or, if you donβt listen to audiobooks, name peopleβcelebrities or otherwiseβwho might make you reconsider.)
Hello Readers! If you’re a follower, you might know I’m not the biggest audiobook fan. Mostly because I’m visual, so I find my mind wandering too much when I try to listen to audiobooks. But I can usually listen to them if I’m busy doing something else like cleaning or riding in the car. And while I’ve only tried a few fiction audiobooks, the ones that work the best for me are nonfiction—especially ones by comedians. I’m more engaged if the narrator is the author and someone I know well, as well as someone who makes me laugh!
In fact, I have so few audiobooks on my Goodreads shelf, this is the first time I don’t have ten books for TTT! I’m sharing four audiobooks I thoroughly enjoyed and three waiting on my TBR.
Let’s see what I found!
(Link to Goodreads synopsis through book title.)
Audiobooks I’ve Enjoyed
The Storyteller: Tales of Life and Music by Dave Grohl
Yes Please by Amy Poehler
Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling
Why Not Me? by Mindy Kaling
Audiobooks On My TBR
Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood by Trevor Noah
As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride by Cary Elwes
Dear Girls: Intimate Tales, Untold Secrets, & Advice for Living Your Best Life by Ali Wong
Have you read any of these? Did you add any to your TBR? Let me know in the comments!
I’ve not read any of these – but very intrigued by the making of the Princess Bride! These are some of my favourite audiobook narrators!
I’ve only heard great things about As You Wish! Hopefully it’s one I can get to soon. π
I’m not usually a fan of celebrity memoirs (I realize some of these are not strictly memoirs), but I have seen As You Wish and thought it might be entertaining.
So we’re like complete opposites when it comes to audiobooks, huh?! π As You Wish seems to come highly recommended.
I should listen to the audiobook of Born a Crime sometime. Sounds good.

So many people recommend that one!
Nice list! I feel like celebrity memoirs are the gateway to audiobook loving for non-listeners. They are usually just scandalous or interesting enough.
Yes! Hopefully someday I’ll venture more into fiction. π
I still don’t listen to a whole lot of audiobooks but I do have a number of non-fiction titles in my Audible library. I’ve heard lots of great things about Grohl’s book and I *loved* Trevor Noah’s narration of his book. So good! π
Grohl’s was great! We listened on our latest road trip. And I’ve only heard great things about Born a Crime. Hopefully I can get to that one sometime soon!
Oooh, BORN A CRIME is a perfect audiobook listen! I highly recommend that one.

I need to make it happen soon!
I’m not really one for audiobooks, but I do like when autobiographies are read by their authors! I’m glad you enjoyed these.

Yes! Who else can tell their stories better, right?!
Right?!
Light non-fiction works well on audio for me, too. I can’t listen to books that have too many details or complicated plot points. Those, I have to read or I will definitely miss something!
Happy TTT!

Yes, I’m the same! And I don’t seem to like too much “acting” in my audiobooks, which is why nonfiction seems to work better for me.
I’ve never listened to an audio book! My fellow reviewer at Long and Short Reviews does and put together a great list. Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!
Oh wow! Never?! I rarely seek them out. The ones I have listened to, I ended up getting with credits. I just enjoy seeing the words on the page more. π
I am not much for non-fiction, so I have not listened to any of these. I did listen to Tina Fey’s Bossypants (she did a great job) and The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid (also a memoire narrated by the author). They fit sort of what you have listened to/have on your TBR
I do have Bossypants in print form on my shelf, which I haven’t read. I bet I would enjoy it more in audio form! Thanks for the recommendations!
Fey was fantastic reading that book! And they played part of a skit she talked about too which just elevated the experience.
You’ve convinced me! I think I’ll make a note on Goodreads to listen to it instead. π
Oh Born A Crime is amazing, you’re in for such a treat! I read in 2021 and it was my favourite book of that year, just sneaking in there as I actually finished it on New Year’s Eve that year! I find audio has really enhanced my enjoyment of non-fiction, especially memoirs, it makes the experience so much better when you’re listening to the author tell you their own life story. If you like funny non-fiction (and happen to be a Gilmore Girls fan), can I recommend Lauren Graham’s two non-fiction essay books: Talking As Fast As I Can and Have I Told You This Already?. Both super funny and very engaging listens.

Sounds like I need to make Born a Crime a priority. So many of you have loved it. I’ve heard that Graham’s books are wonderful. I did not watch Gilmore Girls when it originally aired. I was watching something else that came on at the same time. Probably Lost. π I’ve watched a few episodes on streaming but haven’t been able to get into it. Maybe someday! I do love all the book references. Thanks for the tips!
You definitely do, it’s fabulous! I will say Lauren Graham’s more recent book of essays is more about life and acting than it is about Gilmore Girls so I reckon if you’re not a Gilmore fan that one might appeal more, it’s called Have I Told You This Already? I love Gilmore Girls, but it’s not for everyone, honestly, I enjoy it more for the characters and the quirky town vibes than the pop culture references, a lot of which go over my head as they reference a lot of media from before I was born! No problem π
Ahhh, ok. Great tips! I’ll check out her book!
No problem!
Nice list! My family LOVES The Princess Bride…I imagine my husband and son would love listening to that book on audio, they have read it in paperback.
Yes! I had plans for us to listen to that one on a family road trip, but now two of my kids have grown up and moved out. So you should make it happen soon.π
Memoirs are always best if the author narrates them.
I agree, Carla!
I love audiobooks! I’ve learned to like them because if not for audiobooks I wouldn’t get much reading done these days. I enjoyed the Mindy Kaling books too π
I’m hoping I’ll get to where I can listen to them more!
