Top Ten Tuesday: 2023 Debut Books I’m Excited About

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovely Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week a new theme is suggested for bloggers to participate in. This week’s prompt is 2023 Debut Books I’m Excited About (These can be actual brand new authors, age-group-shifting debuts like when a YA author writes their first adult book, or genre-shifting debuts like when an author who has always written romance releases a thriller.)

Hello Readers! I hope today’s TTT finds you well. We’ve thawed out from the ice storm and had a few days of sunshine and warmer weather, which has been so nice. I was pretty excited to see today’s topic. I knew it would be straight-forward and fairly easy to put together. I don’t think I have as many debuts as usual on my tbr for the year since I’m trying to read less ARCs, and that’s where I always discover debuts. So here are some debuts that have caught my eye, but I may not read any time soon. Because… so many books, not enough time! 😃

Let’s see what debuts I’m excited about!

(Link to Goodreads synopsis through book title.)

  1. The Love Match by Priyanka Taslim – I’m hoping to read this one this month!
To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before meets Pride and Prejudice in this delightful and heartfelt rom-com about a Bangladeshi American teen whose meddling mother arranges a match to secure their family’s financial security—just as she’s falling in love with someone else.”
    1/3/23
  2. Highly Suspicious and Unfairly Cute by Talia Hibbert – From what I understand, this is Hibbert’s YA debut.
“From the New York Times bestselling author of the Brown Sisters trilogy, comes a laugh-out-loud story about a quirky content creator and a clean-cut athlete testing their abilities to survive the great outdoors–and each other.”
    1/3/23
  3. Maame by Jessica George –
“Smart, funny, and deeply affecting, Maame deals with the themes of our time with humor and poignancy: from familial duty and racism, to female pleasure, the complexity of love, and the life-saving power of friendship. Most important, it explores what it feels like to be torn between two homes and cultures―and it celebrates finally being able to find where you belong.”
    1/31/23
  4. The Writing Retreat by Julia Bartz –
The Plot meets Please Join Us in this psychological suspense debut about a young author at an exclusive writer’s retreat that descends into a nightmare.”
    2/21/23
  5. The Nanny by Lana Fergson –
“A woman discovers the father of the child she is nannying may be her biggest (Only)Fan in this steamy contemporary romance by Lana Ferguson.”
    4/11/23
  6. Small Joys by Elvin James Mensah –
“An unexpected friendship saves a young man’s life in this moving, utterly charming debut about chosen family, the winding road to happiness, and the grace of second chances.”
    4/11/23
  7. The One by Julia Argy –
“A razor-sharp and seductively hypnotic debut novel about the very fantasy of falling in love.”
    4/18/23
  8. Rubi Ramos’s Recipe for Success by Jessica Parra –
“A joyful novel of first romance, new possibilities, and the chance to define yourself, Rubi Ramos’s Recipe for Success is a novel that will find its way into your heart and never leave.”
    5/16/23
  9. Something More by Jackie Khalilieh –
“A contemporary teen romance novel featuring a Palestinian-Canadian girl trying to hide her autism diagnosis while navigating her first year of high school, for fans of Jenny Han and Samira Ahmed.”
    6/6/23
  10. You, With a View by Jessica Joyce –
“Two high school enemies must reunite for a road trip inspired by their grandparents’ broken engagement in this electric debut romance.”
    7/11/23

Do we share any debuts? Or have you read any of these yet? Let me know in the comments!

Happy Wandering!

  1. The Nanny and You With a View are two I am looking forward to reading. I seem to either want books to make me laugh or cry. These seem to read rom-com, and I welcome the opportunity to laugh

    1. You just want a book to make you feel something! 😉 Both of those seem to have great early reviews. I requested an advance copy of The Nanny, but I was rejected. I’ll have to wait to read it!

    1. Oh, I hope you enjoy The Writing Retreat. I love hearing the good reviews for Unfairly Cute. I’m so curious how Hibbert does with YA, when she’s known for her steaminess.

      1. This is where audiobooks have definitely helped me because I certainly acquire less books now, though I have somewhat neglected the books on the shelves for my audios, so I guess swings and roundabouts……
