My February TBR

Hello Readers! I hope you’re well and warm! February is one of my favorite months. It’s my birthday month, but more importantly, it’s Valentines! And I do love romance. My TBR for this month consists almost entirely of romance. It wasn’t really something I planned, it’s just the way my ARCs have aligned. But I’m not mad about it. 😍

I’m over-planning my TBR for February with hopes that I’ll get to as many of these as possible. What I don’t get to this month will probably get pushed to March. I read every book on My January TBR—plus some—and it’s made me more optimistic than I should be for February. It’s even a shorter month. But anything can happen, right?!

Let’s see what I have planned!

One Night on the Island by Josie Silver

This is the book I just started, and since I was a fan of her holiday novel One Day in December, I’m optimistic that I’ll enjoy this one, as well.

Synopsis:

Spending her thirtieth birthday alone is the last thing that dating columnist Cleo wanted, but she is going on a self-coupling quasi-sabbatical–at the insistence of her boss–in the name of re-energizing herself and adding a new perspective to her column. The remote Irish island she’s booked is a far cry from London, but at least it’s a chance to hunker down in a luxury cabin and indulge in some quiet, solitary self-care while she figures out her next steps in her love life and her career.

Mac is also looking forward to some time to himself. With his life in Boston deteriorating in ways he can’t bring himself to acknowledge, his soul searching has brought him to the same Irish island in search of his roots and some clarity. Unfortunately, a mix-up with the bookings means both solitude seekers have reserved the same one-bedroom hideaway on exactly the same dates.

Instantly at odds with each other, Cleo and Mac don’t know how they’re going to manage until the next weekly ferry arrives. But as the days go by, they no longer seem to mind each other’s company quite as much as they thought they would…

Written with Josie Silver’s signature warmth, charm and insights into the human heart, One Night on the Island explores the meaning of home, the joys of escape and how the things we think we want are never the things we really need.

Meet Me in the Margins by Melissa Ferguson

Bookish romance?? Yes, please!

Synopsis:

Savannah Cade is a low-level editor at Pennington Publishing, a prestigious publisher producing only the highest of highbrow titles. And while editing the latest edition of The Anthology of Medieval Didactic Poetry may be her day job, she has two secrets she’s hiding.

One: She’s writing a romance novel.

Two: She’s discovered the Book Nook—a secret room in the publishing house where she finds inspiration for her “lowbrow” hobby.

After leaving her manuscript behind one afternoon, she returns to the nook only to discover someone has written notes in the margins. Savannah’s first response to the criticism is defensive, but events transpire that force her to admit that she needs the help of this shadowy editor after all. As the notes take a turn for the romantic, and as Savannah’s madcap life gets more complicated than ever, she uses the process of elimination to identify her mysterious editor—only to discover that what she truly wants and what she should want just might not be the same. Melissa Ferguson’s latest—a love letter to books, readers, and romance—will leave fans laughing out loud and swooning in the same breath.

An Echo in the Bone (Outlander, #7) by Diana Gabaldon

The next book in the Outlander series I need to read, I’d like to read this one before the next season of the adaptation comes out in March—just in case they use anything from this book. I don’t want to be spoiled by the show. 😉

Synopsis:

Jamie Fraser, erstwhile Jacobite and reluctant rebel, knows three things about the American rebellion: the Americans will win, unlikely as that seems in 1778; being on the winning side is no guarantee of survival; and he’d rather die than face his illegitimate son — a young lieutenant in the British Army — across the barrel of a gun. Fraser’s time-travelling wife, Claire, also knows a couple of things: that the Americans will win, but that the ultimate price of victory is a mystery. What she does believe is that the price won’t include Jamie’s life or happiness — not if she has anything to say.

Claire’s grown daughter Brianna, and her husband, Roger, watch the unfolding of Brianna’s parents’ history — a past that may be sneaking up behind their own family.

Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel

This book has been waiting on my shelf for almost four years! I’m hoping to finally read it so I can watch the new adaptation.

Synopsis:

Set in the days of civilization’s collapse, Station Eleven tells the story of a Hollywood star, his would-be savior, and a nomadic group of actors roaming the scattered outposts of the Great Lakes region, risking everything for art and humanity.

One snowy night a famous Hollywood actor slumps over and dies onstage during a production of King Lear. Hours later, the world as we know it begins to dissolve. Moving back and forth in time—from the actor’s early days as a film star to fifteen years in the future, when a theater troupe known as the Traveling Symphony roams the wasteland of what remains—this suspenseful, elegiac, spellbinding novel charts the strange twists of fate that connect five people: the actor, the man who tried to save him, the actor’s first wife, his oldest friend, and a young actress with the Traveling Symphony, caught in the crosshairs of a dangerous self-proclaimed prophet.

The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood

I don’t actually own this one yet, but I’m hoping to purchase it with a gift card I received for Christmas. And then actually read it, as well. 😉

Synopsis:

As a third-year Ph.D. candidate, Olive Smith doesn’t believe in lasting romantic relationships–but her best friend does, and that’s what got her into this situation. Convincing Anh that Olive is dating and well on her way to a happily ever after was always going to take more than hand-wavy Jedi mind tricks: Scientists require proof. So, like any self-respecting biologist, Olive panics and kisses the first man she sees.

That man is none other than Adam Carlsen, a young hotshot professor–and well-known ass. Which is why Olive is positively floored when Stanford’s reigning lab tyrant agrees to keep her charade a secret and be her fake boyfriend. But when a big science conference goes haywire, putting Olive’s career on the Bunsen burner, Adam surprises her again with his unyielding support and even more unyielding… six-pack abs.

Suddenly their little experiment feels dangerously close to combustion. And Olive discovers that the only thing more complicated than a hypothesis on love is putting her own heart under the microscope.

Running Wild (Wild, #3) by K. A. Tucker

Another one I don’t have on hand yet, but I’m hoping to read sooner rather than later. I’m hoping if I put it here, it’ll be more likely to happen. I absolutely LOVE this series!

Synopsis:

From the internationally bestselling author of The Simple Wild comes the story of a woman at a crossroads in her life, struggling between the safe route and the one that will only lead to more heartbreak.

Veterinarian Marie Lehr knows unrequited love all too well after pining for her best friend, only to watch him marry another woman. It’s a mistake she will never make again, especially not when she can practically hear the clock ticking on her childbearing years.

The trouble is, she can’t seem to find anyone who appeals to her even a fraction as much as that burly bush pilot did. Competitive musher Tyler Brady certainly doesn’t, especially not after the heated altercation with the handsome but arrogant, spiteful man.

Or so she thinks.

While volunteering at the Iditarod Sled Dog Race, Marie discovers that first impressions may have been false, and her attraction to Tyler is very real. But his heart belongs to someone else, leaving him with nothing to offer but friendship. Marie’s been down this road before and knows how that ends. Yet, no matter how hard she works to keep from falling for Tyler, it seems she’s doomed to follow her own trail once again.

One Italian Summer by Rebecca Serle

I’ve been a fan of the previous two books I’ve read by Serle, so I’m very excited to get to her newest one.

Synopsis:

When Katy’s mother dies, she is left reeling. Carol wasn’t just Katy’s mom, but her best friend and first phone call. She had all the answers and now, when Katy needs her the most, she is gone. To make matters worse, their planned mother-daughter trip of a lifetime looms: two weeks in Positano, the magical town Carol spent the summer right before she met Katy’s father. Katy has been waiting years for Carol to take her, and now she is faced with embarking on the adventure alone.

But as soon as she steps foot on the Amalfi Coast, Katy begins to feel her mother’s spirit. Buoyed by the stunning waters, beautiful cliffsides, delightful residents, and, of course, delectable food, Katy feels herself coming back to life.

And then Carol appears—in the flesh, healthy, sun-tanned, and thirty years old. Katy doesn’t understand what is happening, or how—all she can focus on is that she has somehow, impossibly, gotten her mother back. Over the course of one Italian summer, Katy gets to know Carol, not as her mother, but as the young woman before her. She is not exactly who Katy imagined she might be, however, and soon Katy must reconcile the mother who knew everything with the young woman who does not yet have a clue.

The Suite Spot (Beck Sisters, #2) by Trish Doller

I adored the first book in this series, The Float Plan, so I’m excited to get to this one!

Synopsis:

Trish Doller’s The Suite Spot is a charming romance novel about taking a chance on a new life and a new love.

Rachel Beck has hit a brick wall. She’s a single mom, still living at home and trying to keep a dying relationship alive. Aside from her daughter, the one bright light in Rachel’s life is her job as the night reservations manager at a luxury hotel in Miami Beach—until the night she is fired for something she didn’t do.

On impulse, Rachel inquires about a management position at a brewery hotel on an island in Lake Erie called Kelleys Island. When she’s offered the job, Rachel packs up her daughter and makes the cross country move.

What she finds on Kelleys Island is Mason, a handsome, moody man who knows everything about brewing beer and nothing about running a hotel. Especially one that’s barely more than foundation and studs. It’s not the job Rachel was looking for, but Mason offers her a chance to help build a hotel—and rebuild her own life—from the ground up.

I’m tentatively putting All Systems Red by Martha Wells and Reminders of Him by Colleen Hoover on my TBR for this month, but not including them in my photo. Both of these are currently available to read on Kindle Unlimited, which I have a trial of for several months. But I’m not sure how long they’ll be available. It seems like I’ve noticed books disappear from KU. If you’re a Kindle Unlimited user, please let me know how it works! 🙂 If I can squeeze either of these in, I will.

What are you most excited to read this month? Have you read any of these books yet? Let me know in the comments!

Happy Wandering!

  1. Lots of romance. Very appropriate for February. You have some amazing books on that list — Love Hypothesis, One Night on the Island, The Suite Spot. I hope you love them. I have a hold at the library for Serle’s book, and I need to get to the new Tucker too. I am sure they will please.

  2. I loved The Love Hypothesis! So….I recently finished Simple Wild, and I was not a fan of the relationship between Jonah and Calla. How prominently does that relationship feature in the other books in the series? If not much, then I might keep reading, but I really am done with their relationship.

    1. Oh no! Welllll, the second book, Wild at Heart, is about Calla and Jonah, as well as the novella, Forever Wild. This newest one, Running Wild, is about Marie, the veterinarian who was Jonah’s friend from the previous books, so you’d probably be safe to skip to that one!

  3. I’m reading Running Wild right now and really enjoying it. I loved Reminders of Him, so definitely read it this month. 😉 And I can’t say enough good things about The Love Hypothesis.

  4. Meet Me In The Margins! Yes! I’m looking forward to that one; it sounds so cute! I don’t know if I’ll get to it this month, but hopefully soon at any rate. And I’m still not sure I’m ready for Station Eleven.

    1. I just started Meet Me in the Margins and so far I’m liking it! I also just finished Station Eleven and I’m not sure I was ready either. Haha! It’s well-written but reading it right now was hard. I probably should have skipped reading it and just watched the adaptation. 😉

      1. Oh, that’s good to know! Meet Me in the Margins just sounds so cute. And I feel so bad for not having read Station Eleven yet, but I’ve finally gotten to a good mental place with the whole pandemic thing and I don’t want to threaten that.

        1. Probably a smart choice! I read The Last Star (the final book in The 5th Element series) recently and I actually enjoyed it, despite it being an apocalypse book, so I thought Station Eleven wouldn’t bother me. But I guess an alien invasion vs. a pandemic apocalyptic book hits differently. Ha! Finished up Meet Me in the Margins and it was a fun, cute, and quick read!

          1. But then again, I read two unexpectedly difficult short books recently and I was okay with them, so maybe I could handle Station Eleven? I guess I want to give myself the best shot at actually enjoying it, so that’s why I’m waiting.

I preordered the ebook of Meet Me in the Margins, so I’m looking forward to getting my copy next week!

          2. It’s funny how we never really know how a book will hit us until we read it, right?! I’ll think, oh I’ll be fine with this, but then something unexpected happens. But it’s also one of the things I love so much about reading. Ha!
