Synopsis:

Sarah Morgenthaler is back with a heart-mending contemporary romance featuring a single dad you’ll fall for; a satisfying slow burn love affair; found family you’ll root for; small town holiday magic; and all the quirky animals and snowy rustic scenes your heart desires.

Sienna Naples’s family has taken care of their wild Idaho land for generations and Sienna can’t imagine any other life. But at Christmastime, with her parents gone and her painful marriage finally over, it’s full of memories…and incredibly lonely. Until a tall, handsome stranger and a little girl walk into her life and suddenly the holidays are alive again.

When single father Guy Maple shows up as the result of an ad meant to be a joke, the handsome Montana construction worker isn’t joking. Money is tight this Christmas, and Guy’s four-year-old daughter Emma has stage-five chronic kidney disease. She needs a kidney transplant, but if Guy can’t prove that he can afford Emma’s anti-rejection medications, his daughter isn’t going to stay on the transplant list. Guy’s willing to do anything, including marrying a stranger, to keep her safe. It’s an impulsive marriage of convenience, and Sienna knows this isn’t real, no matter how much she adores Emma, how well Guy fits in to the ranching lifeβ€”or how much light and laughter is coming into their lives as a result. But the more time she spends with her new family, the more she fears losing the fragile, feisty little girl and the kind, devoted, hard-working, incredibly attractive man who is her husbandβ€”but is it only in name?

My thoughts

(Spoiler free)

Sarah Morgenthaler returns with The Christmas You Found Me, a new romance that tugged at my heartstrings, trying its best to break me down into uncontrollable sobbing. But fear not, while it packed an emotional punch, it also left me hopeful and smiling.

The Christmas You Found Me is a holiday romance set in a small town in beautiful Idaho. With her divorce finally official, Sienna is trying her best to move on, focusing on her ranch and animals instead of her past. When her best friend Jess decides to annoy Sienna’s ex by putting up flyers around town advertising β€˜Husband for Hire’, Sienna is surprised when an applicant finds her at the local coffee shop. Guy is new in town, unaware that the ad is a joke, and desperate to find work to pay for his very sick daughter’s medical treatment.

Sienna can’t stop thinking about the desperation in Guy’s eyes, especially after she meets Emma, his adorable four year old daughter with late-stage kidney disease. Sienna comes up with an even better plan: marrying Guy so Emma can be covered under her insurance.

“We’re a picture of domestic bliss, except for the tiny little part where it’s all a lie. A complete and utter lie. It hits me hard all of a sudden, how this was supposed to be what Micah and I should have had, only a real version.”

This one has a great cast of characters, from Sienna, Guy, and Emma, to Jess, and even Micah, Sienna’s ex. There was plenty to keep me reading, as well, from the marriage of convenience shenanigans, to Emma’s illness, to the holiday festivities, and even to the drama with Micah. I could tell this was the start of a new series for Morgenthaler, and I’m eager to see which side character will be the focus of the next book.

Guy’s love for his daughter is so big, and when it eventually includes Sienna, it’s the sweetest thing. He’s strong, but also a gooey cinnamon roll of a man.

And Emma is adorable. Sometimes when children are portrayed in romance novels, they can come across as cheesy, but Emma is her own character, personable and unique.

I also enjoyed the small-town setting, the long history of Sienna’s family home, as well as her history with her ex complicating her future.

While The Christmas You Found Me IS festive, it isn’t overly saturated with Christmas, so it would be fine to read any time of the year, as well. Heartwarming and emotional, The Christmas You Found Me deserves a spot on your TBR!

A Song For A Book

The song I’m highlighting was mentioned in the book, so that made it an easy choice, even if it seems like an odd one for a holiday book. Somehow, it fits! “Once in a Lifetime” by Talking Heads

And you may find yourself living in a shotgun shack
And you may find yourself in another part of the world
And you may find yourself behind the wheel of a large automobile
And you may find yourself in a beautiful house, with a beautiful wife
And you may ask yourself, “Well, how did I get here?”

Letting the days go by, let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by, water flowing underground
Into the blue again, after the money’s gone
Once in a lifetime, water flowing underground…

  1. I adored this book, and yes! Guy was an amazing dad and person. My heart exploded many times as I read this book. I liked that Morgenthaler gave Micah a chance at redemption because I really hated him in the beginning.

  2. I loved this one, Dedra. It was one of my favourite holidy books this year. I agree, you could read it anytime. Micah was such a jerk at the beginning, so I was happy to see him come around at the end. Wonderful review
