Bookending Winter Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday: Holiday Reads

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish and is now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week a new theme is suggested for bloggers to participate in. This week’s prompt is Holiday Reads. I try every December to reserve the month for only festive holiday reads. (I’m still currently reading Call Down the Hawk, but that’s okay because I know I’ll love it. ;)) All my challenges are over, I’ve met my Goodreads Goal, and it’s my time to finally mood read before a new year begins. I’ve selected 8 holiday reads I thoroughly enjoyed and 2 that I’m planning on reading this holiday season. <3

I had so much fun participating in Bookending Autumn, I decided to join in Bookending Winter, hosted by Sam @ Fictionally Sam and Clo @ Cuppa Clo. My first prompt will be Blanket, Tea, Read! hosted by Laurie @ Laurie’s Bookshelf.

Blanket, Tea, (Holiday) Read!

Winter is the ultimate time to get yourself comfortable with blankets, tea, and books. Which books would you like to read this winter, or which books are getting you in the winter/Christmas mood?

(Link to synopsis on Goodreads through the book title.)

1

This is a cute novella about Holly–Miss Christmas–who is the Director of Horticulture at Rockefeller Center, which means she’s in charge of picking out the big Christmas tree. When she finds the perfect tree, the owner needs some convincing. [usr 4]

2

Unwrapping Her Perfect Match was a nice surprise. This novella about Gwen, a nurse in a busy London hospital who falls for injured rugby player, John, was well-written and made me laugh! And there’s no need to have read any of the other books in this series. I hadn’t. [usr 4]

3

If you’ve never read Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares, then what are you waiting for?? I mean, it’s a love story that originates in a bookstore from a note left in a book. It’s a must-read for book lovers. [usr 4]

And here’s a freebie: If you like Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares, then you’ll love The Twelve Days of Dash & Lily. [usr 4]

4

I read The Afterlife of Holly Chase last year and it was the sweetest surprise. Not at all what I was expecting. It’s a very unique retelling of A Christmas Carol. [usr 4]

5

If you’re more into literary holiday reads, Seven Days of Us is a great one to pick up. The Birch family will finally be under one roof for Christmas, especially since one of them has been put under quarantine for a week. This one is full of family drama, humor, and heart. [usr 4]

6

Kiss Me in New York is charming and sweet and I fell in love with the characters. Charlotte and Anthony have both just been dumped by their significant others in New York City at JFK where flights have been cancelled because of the weather. And on Christmas Eve. [usr 4]

7

If you like your holiday reads to have some dark humor, sarcasm, or to shock you, pick up David Sedaris’ Holidays on Ice, which is a collection of short stories and essays. But be forewarned, it’s not for everyone. And while I didn’t love every story in this book, several of them had me laughing through tears. [usr 4]

8

I read The Adults last year, and it has stuck with me, which is a rare thing. I enjoyed this story about two exes trying to celebrate Christmas together–with their new significant others–for the sake of their child. It’s unlike anything I’ve read before. [usr 4]

9

The next two are holiday reads I’m planning on reading this month. I’ve managed to acquire all four of the books in the Winter Series by Elin Hilderbrand, starting with the first one, Winter Street. Let me know if you’ve read them and what you thought!

10

The Cosy Christmas Chocolate Shop was recommended by Amy @ Amy’s Bookish Life. When I discovered it was on sale at Amazon, I snatched it up! Have you read this one? What did you think?

Have I included any of your favorites? Or maybe one you wish you’d never read?? Let me know in the comments!

Happy Wandering!
