The Folklore Book Tag

So I have to admit that after my first listen-through of Taylor Swift’s latest release, Folklore, I wasn’t sure how I felt about it. But I do typically have to listen to new music a few times to know how I really feel, so I gave it another chance. Aaaand I was quickly listening to it on repeat. I’m not sure I can pick a favorite yet, but the songs that I keep finding myself singing are “The 1” and “My Tears Ricochet”.

There are several Folklore Tags floating around the blogosphere, but the lovely Sumedha @ The Wordy Habitat tagged me so I’ll be using the prompts she followed, as well. Thank you for the tag! <3

“The 1” kicks off the album with a catchy tune and lyrics that are easy to sing along with. My favorite line is: “But it would’ve been fun, if you would’ve been the one.”

For this prompt I chose Catching Fire. That ending was HARD. Especially if you had to wait for the next book.

“Cardigan” is a song I find myself humming when I’m distracted. My favorite line is: “A friend to all is a friend to none.” At first it felt like a throwaway line, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized it’s spot-on.

Pretty much anytime I’m reading the last book in a beloved series, I feel happy and sad. Happy to finally have it in my hands, but sad that it will soon be over. No matter how many times I reread The Infernal Devices, The Clockwork Princess makes me sad.

I always enjoy a good story song. And Taylor rarely disappoints. I love the picture this song paints. It my mind it’s the Kennedy compound at Hyannis Port. πŸ˜‰ I love the line: “I had a marvelous time ruining everything.”

One of my favorite storytellers is Maggie Stiefvater. The world she created in The Raven Boys is beyond fascinating.

I wasn’t sure how I felt about “Exile” at first. It’s so very different from the Bon Iver songs I know and love, but it’s grown on me. My favorite line is: “I can see you starin’, honey, like he’s just your understudy.”

I’ve mentioned my dislike of The Library at Mount Char before. It was too weird for me. When I finished it, I wasn’t sure what I had read.

This is the song that STAYS stuck in my head. It’s catchy. I love the line: “I didn’t have it in myself to go with grace.”

I’m not sure a book has ever made me cry uncontrollably. It’s not because my heart is made of stone, but I tend to stay away from terribly sad books. But I do remember being surprised by how much Before I Fall made me cry.

If I had to pick my least favorite song, it might be this one. I DO like it, but just not as much as the others. I do like the line: “I can change everything about me to fit in.” I’ve always been a little envious of people who have that ability.

If you’re a follower, you know I can’t stop talking about Beach Read. (My Review) I feel like this book was written just for me—a hopeless romantic who loves to read, write, and listen to music.

“Seven” is such a sweet song. I love the line: “And though I can’t recall your face, I still got love for you.” Haven’t we all had a childhood friend like that?

For me the book and the original television series are so intertwined, I can’t remember which came first. Probably the tv series. But I fell in love with Anne of Green Gables.

Ahh, young love. “August” captures it perfectly. My favorite line is: “So much for summer love, and saying “Us”, cause you weren’t mine to lose.”

I first read Just One Day during the summer. The story revolves around Allyson and Willem’s whirlwind day spent in Paris while she’s on vacation. Even though it’s basically insta-love, I fell hard for these characters. I’m hoping to do a reread before the summer is over.

“This is Me Trying” is a bit sad and haunting. My favorite line is: “So I got wasted like all my potential.” Ouch.

Another recent read that I can’t stop sharing is Dear Emmie Blue. (My Review) Emmie has had a hard start to life, but her journey through loneliness and sadness is inspiring and sweet.

“Illicit Affairs” is another sad one. The line, “Take the words for what they are, a dwindling, mercurial high” are poignant.

My most recent book hangover was Midnight Sun. (My Review) The only book I could consider picking up next was New Moon. πŸ˜‰

“Invisible String” is a hopeful song, with another tune I find myself humming. I love the line: “Hell was the journey but it brought me heaven.” It’s a great reminder that good can come from bad.

The Simple Wild was the perfect book to finally get me out of my reading slump earlier this year. Unputdownable! I immediately picked up the next book in the series.

I like that “Mad Woman” is more of a quiet song. For me, that makes it even more impactful. The line, “And when you say I seem angry, I get more angry.” Accurate.

I. Adore. Cress. Cress may be the third book in The Lunar Chronicles series, but it’s my favorite. Cress is exuberant, youthful, and wide-eyed. Her charm is infectious.

“Epiphany” is a pretty song, but so sad. The line, “Only twenty minutes to sleep, but you dream of some epiphany” is heart-breaking.

Daphne du Maurier does a superb job creating that undertone of unease throughout Rebecca, that feeling that has you looking over your shoulder and questioning everything.

“Betty” is a fun one to sing along with. And I love the line, “The worst thing that I ever did, is what I did to you.” It’s rare that people admit their mistakes.

Claire and Jamie’s romance in Outlander definitely filled me with yearning. And had me picking up the next book immediately.

“Peace” is a beautiful song about treasuring someone. I love the line: “But I’m a fire and I’ll keep your brittle heart warm, If your cascade, ocean blue waves come.”

Poor Will in The Infernal Devices series guts me every time. I just want him to find happiness.

I think “Hoax” is one of the best written songs on the album. It’s simple but clever. The line, “Don’t want no other shade of blue, but you” speaks volumes.

I was excited about Colleen Hoover’s November 9 but it didn’t live up to the hype for me. There were just too many issues I couldn’t get past.

  1. Love your responses! I am *obsessed* with Folklore. It’s a skipless album in my opinion, but I think my favorite songs are “august”, “mirrorball”, “betty”, and “peace”.
