Book Challenge TBR

My 2020 Reading Rush TBR

The Reading Rush is a week-long readathon from July 20th-26th for book lovers around the world! I only discovered The Reading Rush earlier this year when I participated in the Stay Home Reading Rush in April, reading four books over four days. I enjoyed getting to cross some books off my backlist, so I decided to join the challenge next week. I’m also participating in the Popsugar Summer Reading Challenge, so I’ll be choosing books that can count for both of these challenges.

What I love about The Reading Rush is it’s open to interpretation. They provide you with prompts you can choose to follow or not. And you can choose a single book that would work for several prompts or one book for each prompt. I’ll be selecting a different book for each prompt, but also try to pick books that will work for multiple prompts in case I run out of time. In other words, I’ll aim high, but also be realistic. ๐Ÿ˜‰ And, rereads count! The seven prompts are:

  1. Read a book with a cover that matches the colour of your birth stone.
  2. Read a book that starts with the word โ€œTheโ€.
  3. Read a book that inspired a movie youโ€™ve already seen.
  4. Read the first book you touch.
  5. Read a book completely outside of your house.
  6. Read a book in a genre that youโ€™ve always wanted to read more of.
  7. Read a book that takes place on a different continent than where you live.

1

My birthday is in February, which means my birthstone is amethyst, and I found several books I already own that would work. 84, Charing Cross Road is the shortest, but I could use The Color Purple for several prompts. I’ve wanted to read all three of these for years.

2

For read a book that starts with “the” prompt, I could use The Color Purple, as well, but if I’m able to choose a book for each prompt, I’ll choose one of these three. The Popular Girl would be my shortest option.

3

I had the read a book inspired by a movie you’ve already seen prompt for my Popsugar Reading Challenge a few years ago, and I read “The Body”, a short story from Stephen King’s Different Seasons, which the film Stand by Me was based on. Luckily, the book also contains “Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption” which inspired the film, The Shawshank Redemption. But once again, The Color Purple would work here, too.

4

I have the read the first book you touch prompt on my Popsugar Reading Challenge for this year–except it explicitly says to choose one with your eyes closed. My Last Continent is the book I touched. I haven’t read it yet, but I doubt I’ll have time to squeeze this one in. If I don’t, I’ll just lay out some shorter options, close my eyes, and pick! ๐Ÿ˜‰

5

For the read a book outside your house prompt, I’ll probably choose one of the shorter options off this list or combine two prompts. It’s hot here in Texas, so it may be one I’ll have to read over several days. Sadly, I don’t live close enough to a beach, but I’ll share this picture and we can pretend I do. ๐Ÿ˜‰

6

For the read a genre you’ve always wanted to read more of prompt, I’ve chosen middle grade or young adult. Okay, and it’s not ONLY because they’re shorter, but that is a bonus. Ha! I have many middle grade/younger adult books on my shelves that I have yet to read.

7

Clearly, for the read a book that takes place on a different continent than where you live prompt, I have my sights set on Europe! More specifically, Paris. Paris Never Leaves You is my next ARC, Paris for One is a shorter option, and Just One Day is one of my all-time favorite books I would love to reread soon. <3

That’s it! Let’s be honest, it’ll be nice if I even manage 3 or 4 books, but it’s nice to set goals, right?? Will you be participating in The Reading Rush? Let me know in the comments!

Happy Wandering!

    1. I hadn’t heard of it until this year either, and it’s been around for awhile. It’s one of the more “manageable” readathons I’ve come across. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  1. This is so fun! At first I was like “ohhh birthstone cover that is HARD” because Topaz is a weird color but for whatever reason there were a few in July that I could think of! The prompts for this are really clever and unique, I like it! Good luck with it!

  2. What an amazing TBR!! Those prompts are exciting! I might have to check out this Reading Rush Challenge but I’m quite a slow reader (unless the book is amazing… then I devour books! ?) so I’d probably get stressed out by not being able to read a whole book in a day! I hope you love all of these books (and thoroughly enjoy your reread)! Good luck with your reading goals! I believe in you!! <3
    Happy Reading!! ๐Ÿ˜€

    1. They are fun prompts, but technically you don’t have to read 7 books in 7 days. Those are like bonuses. They even said if you can find one book that works for all 7 prompts, that’s fine too. Ha!

  3. I definitely recommend One Crazy Summer!! It is one of my favorite books, and a pretty quick read. Good luck with the readathon!

  4. Every year I say I’m going to attempt the Reading Rush and every year I forget, LOL! Have fun and good luck, Dedra!

    1. I’m sorry I’m just responding! The readathon has kept me busy! ๐Ÿ˜‰ I managed to read 7 books and finished today. Yay! I didn’t exactly stick to my picks, but pretty closely. I’ll be sharing how I did in my monthly wrap-up. I’m jumping over to see your TBR now. ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. I was unfortunately late to learning about The Reading Rush, so I totally missed it (not that I had time for it at that point anyway haha). I love seeing everyone’s TBRs, though! Looks like you had a really nice mixture of books here. I need to read The Lightning Thief still, too. Hope your Reading Rush went well!
