Bookish News to Smile About

Hello Readers! We could all use some good news, and over the past few weeks I’ve been seeing a plethora of bookish news that makes me smile. Maybe I’m spending more time perusing the internet? Maybe being forced to stay home has made the good things stand out more? Or maybe the stressful times have made people kinder? I’m sure it’s a combination of all three, but as the list of things grew, I decided to share them with you!

Midnight Sun

By now most people have heard the news about the release of Midnight Sun, Stephenie Meyer’s long-awaited Twilight book from Edward’s point of view. I’ve been waiting (not-so-patiently) for this book for years, so it will be at the top of my good-news-list for months.

An Infernal Devices Adaptation?!

Wait, what??!! I had to look twice when I saw this news. The Infernal Devices is one of my top five favorite series. I’ve read it at least four times. And while the thought of a TV series adaptation gives me a thrill, it also makes me very nervous. Because I don’t want to see something I love so much ruined. The Shadowhunters adaptations were okay. But it’s hard to adapt a book with so many fantasy elements and make it not look fake. So, I’ll be holding my breath for this one. But I can’t NOT get swoony over the idea of Will in the flesh and Victorian London. ๐Ÿ˜‰

The Custom of the Country

In college, I was obsessed with Edith Wharton. My favorite book was The Custom of the Country. Undine Spragg is a heroine not easily forgotten. So, when I saw the news that Sofia Coppola was adapting it, I was thrilled. I’m not too worried about this one. I trust it’ll be in great hands.

The Iron Fey’s Updated Covers

I was just chatting with another blogger in her comments about how The Iron Fey needs updated covers. (I can’t remember who I was chatting with, but let me know if it was you. ;)) Then I saw that the 10th Anniversary editions–with all new covers–would be released this month along with a new book, The Iron Raven, to follow next year! (It’s actually somewhat old news, but new to me!) These covers are gorgeous!

Authors Are Just Like Us!

I saw this interesting article when I received Beth Revis’s newsletter. She was surprised to be contacted by a New York Times journalist–not about her books, but about the fact that she has to work from a parking lot right now. It’s a fun reminder that authors are just like us, and the lengths they go to for their fans.

The Bromance Book Club

I haven’t read The Bromance Book Club yet, but I was already excited to hear that it’s getting a Netflix adaptation. Now I have a deadline to pick this one up!

Local Library Reaches Out to its Older Customers

And last but not least, this is more local news for me, but I actually learned about it from a Book Riot newsletter. I thought it was such a sweet thing for the library to do. And we could all use some uplifting stories right now, right?

  1. OMG! I haven’t heard about ANY of this stuff (well, except for Midnight Sun coz I don’t know where you’d have to be to not hear about this news ?) but BROMANCE ADAPTATION!? That’s sooo exciting ? Omg I can absolutely picture it and I’m so excited! Hahaha I hope they do it justice! Also those covers of the Kagawa series is gorgeous ? I still haven’t read anything by her but I’m really keen to pick up her Shadow of the Fox series. Great post, Dedra!

    1. Ha! Right? You’d have to be living under a rock not to have heard about Midnight Sun! The Iron Fey is the only series I’ve read by Kagawa. I really enjoyed it and should probably check out more of her other ones. I’m looking up Shadow of the Fox now. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  2. I haven’t read the ‘Bromance’ novels, but do see them EVERYWHERE. They sound fun, and if there’s to be an adaptation, I just may have to pick it up as that’s my “rule”; read the book first. ๐Ÿ˜€

  3. I’m looking forward to the Infernal Devices adaptation. I’ve never read Twilight, but now they’re on my holds list at the library (curbside pickup now).

  4. This is a GREAT post! Some much-needed pick-me-ups in here. I didn’t realize The Iron Fey was getting updated covers, but I love them! They’re so pretty. The author working in a parking lot is a cross between sad and funny, because I’ve done that before, too, but ugh, no one should have to. That’s so awesome about the library, too! We’re doing something similar at our library, but we are soooo much smaller, so it’s not that taxing for us. Certainly not 157 calls a day!

    1. Aren’t The Iron Fey covers GORGEOUS?? Now I want to buy them, but I already own the old set. And I’m cheap. lol Writing in the parking lot is a bit sad. When I’ve participated in Nanowrimo, I’ve done a lot of the writing on my laptop in my car, and that’s NOT easy. It’s so hard to get comfortable. It’s so cool that your library is calling patrons, too! It’s such a great way to reach out to people stuck at home. <3

  5. That’s really neat news about the library! I had heard some of your news, but the bookish news I’ve been most interested in lately was the news that Percy Jackson is going to be coming to Disney Plus as a new series. That sound fun!

    1. I just saw the news about Percy Jackson, too! That’s so cool. I haven’t read the books yet, but I hope to someday. I was obsessed with Greek Mythology when I was a kid. ๐Ÿ™‚
