Book Tag Bookending Winter

Bookish Naughty or Nice Tag | Bookending Winter

This tag was created by Jenniely, but I discovered it from Sammie @ The Writerly Way! It looked like so much fun and I couldn’t wait to try it out!

I’m predicting I’ll be on the Naughty list, or at least pretty close to split down the middle. I would say that correctly reflects my bookish life. πŸ˜‰ But let’s dive in and see what happens! Will it be coal or candy in my stocking??

I’m tagging this as a Bookending Winter post as well. It’s not one of the suggested prompts, but it definitely could have been. If you’re not familiar with Bookending Winter, it’s hosted by  Sam @ Fictionally Sam & Clo @ Cuppa Clo:

Bookending Winter is one of the quarterly events, running under the umbrella term ‘Bookend Events’, aspiring to bring the book blogging community closer together! Bookending Winter has a vague theme ofΒ Christmas and All Things Winter, but youΒ DO NOTΒ need to stick to this theme at all!

1

βœ“ Received an ARC and NOT reviewed it.

Naughty!

Sadly, I have several. If we’re just talking about physical ARCs, they are mostly ones I won, not that I requested, so I don’t feel AS bad. I do have digital ARCs on Netgalley that I’ve had to remove. I went through a few late-night Netgalley request binges, expecting not to get approved, and then wanting to crawl under a rock when I did get approved. It was impossible to keep up. But I’ve since learned my lesson and I only request what I can read, so that hasn’t happened this past year.

2

βœ— Have less than 60% feedback rating on Netgalley.

Nice!

If you read the above answer, you’ll see that I cleaned up my act on Netgalley this past year, so one of the many benefits was a better feedback rating. Mine is currently at 90%!

3

βœ— Rated a book on Goodreads and promised a full review was to come on your blog (and never did).

Nice!

I feel like this one is a little unfair since I just started blogging in September. I haven’t had many chances to break my promises yet. But, the first thing I do after I finish a book is write a review on Goodreads. If I don’t, I’ll forget most of what I wanted to say. My memory stinks when it comes to most book details. And I typically read a book right before or right after the publishing date.

4

βœ“ Folded down the page of a book.

Naughty!

I guess if we’re going by ever in my whole life, I would be naughty. I swear I don’t do this anymore. (Really, I can’t stand it!) But I did do this in high school and college. What can I say, I learned to respect books as I grew older. πŸ˜‰

5

βœ“ Accidentally spilled on a book.

Naughty!

I’m not sure how to answer this one. I can’t recall a major spill, but I have definitely dripped coffee or tea or water on books. And I won’t even talk about how many food smudges I’ve left on pages. I still have unresolved feelings of guilt for the last time this happened. Never mind. I said I wouldn’t talk about it. Let’s move on!

6

βœ“ DNF a book this year.

Naughty!

Well, this is a recent development for me. I used to finish books no matter what, but I’ve done better the last year. I still only DNFed two books this year. I probably should have put down more, but I’m working on it. I don’t feel naughty about this one at all. Sorry not sorry.

7

βœ— Bought a book purely because it was pretty with no intention of reading it.

Nice!

I’ve bought books that are pretty, but never with the intention of not reading them. That’s just silly. πŸ˜‰

8

βœ“ Read whilst you were meant to be doing something else (like homework).

Naughty!

Does reading while you’re cooking dinner count?? Or eating dinner? Or taking care of children?

9

βœ“ Skim read a book.

Naughty!

I’ve never skimmed a whole book, but if a scene is particularly dragging and has no relevance to the plot, I will skim. Or if I’m not enjoying a book and I’m considering DNFing it, I will skim to see if the story gets better.

10

βœ— Completely missed your Goodreads goal.

Nice!

I’ve always either met or surpassed my Goodreads goal. I met this year’s goal of 75 books the last day of November. I typically set my goal at 100, but the last two years I’ve set it at 75 to encourage me to take time for Nanowrimo and Camp Nanowrimo throughout the year.

11

βœ— Borrowed a book and not returned it.

Nice!

So currently, the only books I check out of the library are ebooks. But I’ve never not returned a book in the past either. (See question 16)

12

βœ“ Broke a book buying ban.

Naughty!

Can you be a true book lover and never have broken a book buying ban?? I don’t think it’s possible.

13

βœ— Started a review, left it for ages then forgot what the book was about.

Nice!

Like I said earlier, I have a terrible memory. I know if I don’t get a review down right away, it’ll be gone. Now, I have gone back and looked at reviews I’ve left for books and not been able to remember anything I wrote. πŸ˜‰

14

βœ“ Wrote in a book you were reading.

Naughty!

I have no problem with people writing in books. As long as it’s small notes and doesn’t obstruct the text. In fact, I love to pick up books at thrift stores and used book stores, and find little thoughts jotted in the margins. I will typically only use pencil in a book and I usually just make brackets around the part I want to remember. I no longer make notes in the book, but I definitely did in college. I was an English Lit major, so it was pretty much required to keep all my readings straight.

15

βœ— Finished a book and not added it to your Goodreads.

Nice!

So I’ve never done this, but I have considered it. πŸ˜‰ Mostly because sometimes I’m embarrassed by the covers. I have an author I love that writes so well, but the covers of her books don’t reflect that at all. But in the end, I need every book to count for my challenge.

16

βœ— Borrowed a book and not returned it to a friend.

Nice!

Nope! I’m one of those people that if I borrow a book, it drives me crazy until I return it. That’s why I rarely borrow books. I don’t have too many friends or family that are readers, so it’s not really a problem. And I refuse to count the people who insist on giving me a book to try, when I really have no interest in it, but they don’t seem to get the hint. Especially when they say, “Don’t worry about getting it back to me. Keep it as long as you need to.” Now I’ve got the worry of do I give it back?? Did they really not want it back?? And if I try to give it back, I’ll have to tell them I didn’t read it. Welcome to my brain.

17

βœ“ Dodged someone asking if they can borrow a book.

Naughty!

Um, yes. I have done this. It pains me to be separated from certain books. And I have loaned out books in the past that I never got back. I can’t remember who I loaned them to, but I remember the books. πŸ˜‰

18

βœ— Broke the spine of someone else’s book.

Nice!

I don’t borrow books. But even if I did, I wouldn’t do that. What kind of person could do that?? πŸ˜‰

19

βœ“ Took the jacket off a book to protect it and ended up making it more damaged.

Naughty!

Yep. You take the jacket off and think you’re putting it somewhere safe, but then it ends up smooshed under a pile of other books. The horror!

20

βœ“ Sat on a book accidentally.

Naughty!

I don’t see how this one can be avoided when you’re obsessed with books. But I’ve never destroyed a book by sitting on it. In fact, it probably hurt me more than I hurt it.

So drumroll… will I be getting coal or candy from Santa this year??

My Results: 11/20 were Naughty.

Well, it could be worse. I really didn’t NEED that candy anyway.

I’m not tagging anyone since I wasn’t tagged, but feel free to join in the fun! <3

Happy Wandering!

  1. This is such a fun tag! I agree completely that DNFing is NOT a bad thing! I too have been trying to get better at doing it, but it’s hard! And seriously who hasn’t sat on a book? Once, I rolled over a few with a HUGE luggage full of books and well… it was tragic, tbh ?

    1. Ha! Yes, DNFing is a struggle. We have to let go of the guilt! Oh gosh. I hope there weren’t too many casualties. When you’re surrounded by books as much as we all are, sometimes bad things will happen to them, right?? πŸ˜‰

      Thank you for stopping by!
