Synopsis:

The boy who always felt like mine is now the man I can’t have…

Dig a little and you’ll find photos of me in the bathtub with Ezra Stern.
Get your mind out of the gutter. We were six months old.
Pry and one of us might confess we saved our first kiss for each other.
The most clumsy, wet, sloppy . . . spectacular thirty seconds of my adolescence.
Get into our business and you’ll see two families, closer than blood, torn apart in an instant.
Twenty years later, my “awkward duckling” best friend from childhood, the boy no one noticed, is a man no one can ignore.

Finer. Fiercer. Smarter.
Taken.

Tell me it’s wrong.
Tell me the boy who always felt like mine is now the man I can’t have.
When we find each other again, everything stands in our way–secrets, lies, promises.
But we didn’t come this far to give up now.
And I know just the move to make if I want to make him mine.

My thoughts

(Spoiler free)

I read Queen Move a few weeks ago, so I’m a little late getting this review up, but it had me blushing from head to toe. It may be one of the steamiest books I’ve ever read. Well-written with fully formed flawed characters, it kept me turning pages…. but there were a few things I didn’t like.

“He’s looking at me like I’m the sunrise and he’s grateful for a brand new day.”

Kennedy Ryan, Queen Move

First let’s talk about what I did like. I mentioned the characters. The lead characters, Ezra and Kimba, were amazing. They leapt off the page. And the chemistry between them was palpable. The secondary characters were fully-formed, as well. I’ll be surprised if there aren’t more books to follow with some of the secondary characters’ stories.

loved that Kimba is an independent, strong woman who doesn’t shy away from her sexuality. We always need more female characters like that. And no spoilers, but she deals with some common health issues that definitely need to have more representation in the book world. I loved that Ezra is complex, but makes his feelings known. We need more male characters like that, too. I liked the fact that the author shows us untraditional families, real families.

I mentioned the steaminess. I love a good romance, but I prefer to have a few things left to the imagination. There was nothing left to the imagination here. Which is great, if that’s what you prefer.

There were a few things that were quite unrealistic. I won’t address them because of spoilers, but I was able to move past them.

It also ended up being a little longer than I thought it should be. I was even skimming the scenes towards the end that didn’t have anything to do with the romance.

But that ending. Wow. It made it all worthwhile.

A Song For A Book

On Bookstagram I created a hashtag for when I include a song that reminds me of the book I’m sharing, #ASongForABook, I thought I’d make it a regular feature on my reviews, too.

Several songs are mentioned in Queen Move, but one that I love and fit the feel of the novel is “September” by Earth, Wind, and Fire. Especially these lyrics:

My thoughts are with you
Holding hands with your heart to see you
Only blue talk and love
Remember how we knew love was here to stay

      1. I agree! If you loved Queen Move then check out the following 2 books by Kennedy Ryan:
        The Kingmaker
        The Rebel King
Kimba is featured as a character in each of these. You will not be disappointed. Happy reading?

  1. Great review, Dedra! I can’t believe I still haven’t read anything by this author except for a short Christmas romance that was in a collection but that one was steamy AF so I can imagine this would be the same ? I’ve been seeing this one mentioned in lists quite a lot though so I’m defo keen to check it out!

  2. I read this a while back. While the chemistry was great and it had good parts, I wasn’t able to get past some of the other plot aspects. It’s also not something I like personally so.. yeah. Glad you liked it, though!

  3. *fans self* Oh my, this sounds lovely — once in a while, I don’t mind if a book doesn’t leave anything to the imagination, especially if the author does it well!
