Synopsis:

A grouchy mountaineer, a Hollywood starlet
And miles of untamed wilderness…
What could possibly go wrong?

Former Hollywood darling River Lane’s acting career is tanking fast. Determined to start fresh behind the camera, she agrees to film a documentary about the picturesque small town of Moose Springs, Alaska. The assignment should have been easy, but the quirky locals want nothing to do with River. Well, too bad: River’s going to make this film and prove herself, no matter what it takes.

Or what (literal) mountain she has to climb.

Easton Lockett may be a gentle giant, but he knows a thing or two about survival. If he can keep everyone in line, he should be able to get River and her crew up and down Mount Veil in one piece. Turns out that’s a big if. The wildlife’s wilder than usual, the camera crew’s determined to wander off a cliff, and the gorgeous actress is fearless. Falling for River only makes Easton’s job tougher, but there’s only so long he can hold out against her brilliant smile. When bad weather strikes, putting everyone at risk, it’ll take all of Easton’s skill to get them back home safely…and convince River she should stay in his arms for good.

My thoughts

(Spoiler free)

I couldn’t be expected to wait until January to read Enjoy the View, could I?! I requested an advance copy of the next book in the Moose Springs series without even reading the description. While The Tourist Attraction will always hold a special place, the series gets better and better with each new installment. And the third one, featuring Easton’s story, had me cheering and swooning.

“There was something about kissing someone on the top of a mountain that made it more fun than normal.”

Sarah Morgenthaler, Enjoy the View

Graham’s best bud, Easton, has been waiting for his turn and we finally get it! This mountain-climbing teddy bear is loyal and brave, but also has a silly side–which was so refreshing. He’s met his match when fiery red-head River arrives in town with her crew to film a documentary. And the opening is one of the cutest meet-cute’s ever.

Morgenthaler does a great job taking what the reader thinks will be a predictable romance story and giving it a twist. While there’s plenty of slow-burn romance going on, Easton and River acknowledge their attraction from the start and don’t fight it too hard. It’s just difficult to make time for each other when you’re climbing a mountain with a film crew in freezing temperatures. I loved their banter, their flirting, and how they always had each other’s backs.

We get appearances from all our favorite side characters (including Easton’s dare-devil sister Ash who needs her own story!) and lots of animal appearances, too, which Morgenthaler is great at. I mean, no one else can have me googling what a marmot is and then melting into a gooey puddle every time it wanders into a scene.

I can’t think of any critiques for Enjoy the View. The characters are well-rounded with satisfying backstories and the plot is unique with the mountaineering angle–which I’ve never read in romance. I didn’t get to read this one as quickly as I would have liked because… life, but that just means I get to reread it soon. Sarah Morgenthaler has been added to my must-read author list, and I hope she’s planning more romances set in Moose Springs!

Thank you to the publisher Sourcebooks Casablanca and Netgalley for providing me with an advance copy.

A Song For A Book

On Bookstagram I created a hashtag for when I include a song that reminds me of the book I’m sharing, #ASongForABook, I thought I’d make it a regular feature on my reviews, too.

While I was reading Enjoy the View, I was also participating in Nanowrimo, and listening to the playlist I’d created to write along with. The song “New Heights” by A Fine Frenzy was perfect for Easton and River. <3

From your lips a precipice
I hang from every word
Height and seeking
Oh we are reaching
New heights and seeking
How to keep them high

Have you read any of the Moose Springs books? Did you add Enjoy the View to your tbr? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I’m so glad to hear this is a good one. I love Easton and am glad he gets his story. I agree Ash needs a story as well. Wonderful review, Dedra.
